Goodgrief (1144), Middletown, Delaware, USA Feb 16, 2008 Nov. 2006 - Dark amber brown color with moderate head and lacing. Caramel, smoky aroma. Flavor much of the same. Heavy smoke, banana, caramel, dark fruit and spices. Nice. johndavidj99 (123), Township, Maine, USA Feb 14, 2008 Updated: Mar 1, 2008Dark ruby red beer with pretty decent head. Full carbonation bubbles. Very sweet aroma, almost artificial cherry smell with yeasty notes. no lacing left. Very full bodied! It tastes like it smell with other fruit flavors plus peppery/spicy notes. I love it! Very nice Noel! The alcohol definitely keeps you warm in the winter! KimJohansen (6645), Copenhagen V, Denmark Feb 10, 2008 Hazy dark amber with large off white head. Sweet aroma with ripe fruits and spices. Flavor is sweet with notes of yeast, raisins, plums and caramel. Warming alcohol in the end. jj21 (84), Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, USA Feb 4, 2008 Served on tap in Delirium Noel Tulip Glass
Pours a clear amber with little to no carbonation but still produced a great thick tan head with dense bubbles. Aroma was overpowered by the yeast. I was a bit disappointed because none of the spice could make it through the bready yeast aromas leaving the smell just like Tremins. Taste was what the nose promised at first, bready yeast, but develops more in the mouth. Great maltiness up front balanced perfectly by hops with hints of clove, fruits and some vanilla. Mouthfeel was smooth. Lighter than I expected and very nicely balanced. Easy to drink for a 10% beer.
kidmartinek (972), austin, Texas, USA Feb 2, 2008 Bottle, 2/2. Does that heavy foam thing rising bottom to top when poured in the glass. It’s clear amber in color, slightly dark. The head is huge and last a long time. The aroma is strong barley malt, alcohol, and a little bit of cherry. The taste is cold and delicious like sweet malt with a tinge of cherry. It really is delicious. There is a little aftertaste that is slightly metallic, unfortunately. Hmright (101), Annapolis, Maryland, USA Feb 2, 2008 Great balance. Dark pour, with a generous head. no lace, but who cares about that crap anyway! Full flavor with sweet caramel and nut flavor. baraciisch (138), USA Jan 31, 2008 Aroma is pretty much like any other barleywine, but it almost has a berry sweet flavor, which makes it definitely not your typical barleywine… Appearance is ruby-reddish brown in color and has a nice clean finish… Can still see particles in the beer, which is pretty interesting… Probably not worth 9.50 a bottle though… Prefer the Tremens, but a very good beer nonetheless… MoDog (909), Griffith, Indiana, USA Jan 29, 2008 Poured from an 11.2oz bottle and served in a tulip. This beer poured a murky brown with a thick head of lasting tan foam. Bubbly lacing covered the inside of the glass. The aroma of the beer was made up of sweet dark fruits, candi sugar, toasted caramel, earthy yeast, and some mild alcohol. The flavor consisted of cherries, red apples, figs, candi sugar, caramel, followed up by a strong, warming alcoholic finish. The mouthfeel was full-bodied and crisp with an adequate amount of lively carbonation. Not mind blowing or terribly complex, but still very tasty.
