rlgk (3377), Vårgårda, Sweden Jul 30, 2005 (Bottle at Delirium Cafe, Bryssels) Hazy amber, nice offwhite head. Aroma from cinnamon, juniperberries, fruity from grapes and some sweet fruits. Malty vinous flavor with figs, nuts, vanilla and some alcohol. Vinous finish. bridge (659), Sydney, Australia Jul 26, 2005 Poured a true brown, with a very vocal tan head that didn’t last very long at all. Aromas of caramel, malt and dried figs. The flavour is very more-ish, with a nice bitter finish. I was not a fan of the way it seemed to fizz up in my mouth, much like that (in)famous soft drink, leaving me burping after every mouthfull. However, the aroma and flavour outweighed this and I quite enjoyed this beer. Anglo version (Delirium Christmas) BB September 06. mike mcneil (660), St Augustine, Florida, USA Jul 13, 2005 Every aspect of this holiday Belgian Winter Ale is admirable. Attratcive rusty-amber color under a durable tan head. Luscious aromas of caramel, spices and dark dried fruits. Silky smooth mouthfeel. A clean, but satisfying palate of sweet cinnamon rolls, apricot, fig and caramel malts. That being said, there is also a certain washed-out whimpiness to this 10% ale that just doesn’t seem to hit you between the eyes like other Belgians of its genre. Maybe just a bit too delicate? JorisPPattyn (5155), Antwerpen, Belgium Jun 26, 2005 Off-white head, red-amber beer. Alcoholic-sweet nose, strongly perfumed. Some malts, coloured and other under all the alcohol-sweet onslaught. Very alcoholic and spicey taste: coriander, but also something else. Don’t know what, but it resembles sweet woodruff, ending in juniper. Despite the dilution by the alcohol, it’s still well-bodied. Alcoholwarming obvious. It’s quite OK, just nothing truly grand - which is a major victory IMO for this brewery. jgb9348 (2492), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA Jun 12, 2005 Hazy dark brown coloured body with crimson highlihgts and a thinnish off-white head. Aroma of yeast, curacao, coriander seed and honey. Medium-bodied; Strong sweetness-curacao and a bit of spice very noticeable up front. Aftertaste clean, but shows a lot of sugars and yeast. Overall, a nice beer but not my favourite tripel. I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased by my brother in law earlier in the day from Dean & Deluca in Georgetown (Washington, D.C.) on 09-January-2005. Ray1975 (251), Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, USA Jun 8, 2005 bottled.. Poured a dark ruby red color with a small white head. Aroma is spicy with a sweet malt.. Flavor is malty sweet with oranges and spices.. Flavor is close to a barley wine.. Medium mouthfeel with good carbonation lagermonkey (597), Marietta, Georgia, USA Jun 4, 2005 From the 750ml bottle. 2004 on the cork.
Pours a deep reddish brown with a light tan head. Smell is fruity. Spiced apples, cherries and clove. Quite festive.
Taste is of those tart spiced apples again. Cloves and cinnamon. Somewhat yeasty and spicy. Sticky sweet, dare I use the dreaded "cloyingly"? A bit too sweet which cuts down quite a bit on the drinkability for me. But not a bad beer to sip on for an hour or so. Very thick and chewy. Good thing it’s a seasonal, once a year will suffice for me. HumuloneRed (750), Portland, Oregon, USA Jun 3, 2005 750ml bottle. Murky copper color with creamy head and lacing. Spicy and fruit in the nose. Great fruit, spice, and malt in the flavor. Very creamy and smooth for a 10%abv beer.
