A cider like aroma and flavor with just a bit of yeast. The high alcohol content is quite well hidden. A great seasonal beer. tbookman (618), Ephrata, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 1, 2002 Aroma is reminiscent of a Belgian wheat. Wonderful reddish hue with yellow highlights. Frothy, thick, off-white head that is mostly lasting. 10% alcohol is very noticeable. Also, quite sweet. This brew is hard to drink with all that alcohol. Why they package it in a 18.5 oz bottle, I have no idea. My friend and I split the bottle and both poured most of it out. Not that it was bad, but with a long night ahead, and the tasting accomplished, I didn’t want to put myself into a state of delirium! A brew to be sipped, and perhaps shared. Pours a medium burnt copper color with a silky smooth khaki head, lots of carbonation. Aroma has some clean spicy notes with a sweet, pruney undertone. Flavor has some delicate date notes with raisins, candied sugar and perhaps some cherries. Blended together well. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy and the alcohol at 10% ais barely noticeable. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 28, 2008 11.2 ounce bottle in Westmalle goblet. Hazy brown with lasting flat tan head. Brown sugar, anise, and raisin wine aroma with slight alcohol evap. Caramel and brown sugar sweetness, nice round fruitiness, raisins and ripe cherries, very mild tobacco and spice finish. Medium body and medium low carbo. This is a damn fine beer. I was somewhat skeptical, I admit. I think this is very tasty and pleasant and, of course, strong.
