Oxymoron (104), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Mar 19, 2008 Frostbite has a clear, darker yellow color. Not as bright as say a school bus yellow but darker than most American lagers. The beer came out with a strong head and lasted throughout the tasting but there was very little lace. Very little smell to the beer but what little you could detect it had a slight base malt to it. The dominant flavor was the wheat base malt. That is the first thing noticeable and a good blend of hops although very limited in the flavor. It could almost be considered a wheat beer if not for the lager and the change it took over time. Specifically it became sourer. Very slight at the beginning but more evident as the beer sat and warmed up. The wheat flavor mellows the sour taste but soon it become over bearing. It is more noticeable in their Banshie Pale Ale. My hunch is that the sourness is from the yeast that they used. The beer is more enjoyable the colder it is. It’s flavor almost speaks of Belgian style beers but without the Belgian flavor. It really questions the drink to order another one, but if there is a blizzard outside, you’re not going any where so why not.
Skyview (3063), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA May 25, 2008 On draught at the brewpub in Watertown, South Dakota. Pours a semi-clear golden pale brew with a creamy off-white head that has some nice retention and very little carbonation. Lacing is spotty but still attaches to the glass side. Aroma of semi-sweet white bread malt, a touch of banana esters from yeast, honey and some green vegetables. Taste is medium bodied, very light carbonation with flavors of semi-sweet multi-grain white bread malt, both flowery and citrus hops with a touch of honey and lemon zest. Finish is smooth, creamy with a touch of banana aroma yeast that slowly disappears. One of Dempsey’s better beers. Try this one unfiltered and it has a more hefeweisen taste and character. Dansting (222), Overland Park, Kansas, USA Jun 27, 2007 On tap at the brewpub. A clear golden color with a light white head. Some lacing. Aroma was weak to non-existance. Flavor was avery smooth malty taste with hints of sweet caramel. Solid lager. eaglefan538 (2115), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Mar 17, 2007 Growler courtesy of Dansting at Caddy’s place w/ Dansting, Caddy, and Timmy. Poured a golden color with maybe some orange hues. The head was decent initially, lacing only ok. Aroma was grassy, honey, vegetal (is that a word? Do I care?). The flavor was grassy, honey, vegetal, earthy, hay, a pilsner take on this one? Mouthfeel was moderate and carbonated, nothing else really noteable. Not bad, not great. Thanks, boys, for the opportunity!
