Nice to find a dark Belgian ale of quaffable strength. Ruddy chestnut-colored beer offers notes of toasted almond and cider in the nose. Lightly sweet, firmly bitter taste with a sourish bready touch and the impression of stewed tea. Finishes dry with bittersweet aftertaste. Highly drinkable.

Bottle, from trade with Papsoe. A more or less clear, copper colored body is topped by a small, beige head. There’s some caramel in the aroma, followed by fresh and some dried fruits, but rather mediocre. The same goes for the flavor, which has a sourish touch along with caramel and fruits. Medium body with a hint of puckering. Sweet, fruity finish with some sourness. A drinkable beer, but not one you find on the top shelf. 090720

Dark red-brown colored with little vanishing yellow head, hazy appearance. Spicy and licoricy aroma with some sour lemony tones. Medium bodied, carbonated palate. Flavor is thinner with vegetably yeastiness, aftertaste turns to rubbery with some lemon and licorice still.

(33cl bottle, Den Herberg Bruin, 5.5% abv) Almost cloudy, murky amber to brown colour with a beige medium-sized and stable foamy head. Slightly yeasty, sweet toasted malty aroma with caramel, a tinge of citrus and berries, accompanied with spicy elements. Sweet-bitter flavour, medium to light bodied with a moderate carbonation. Toast-malty base with caramel, restrained fruity notes and a rather tough spicy touch, getting stronger towards the pretty slim finish (21.V.09).

Bottled@One Pint, Helsinki. Rubyish murky brown colour, mediumsized beige head. Aroma is hops, yeast, caramel, fudge and syrup. Flavour is a bit metallic, caramel malty and a bit yeasty. Dark dry fruits as well as some berries. Watery and not very inspiring.
