BeerConnoiseur (10), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada Apr 27, 2005 Updated: Sep 14, 2006Pours a clear dark mahogany body with a foamy tan head. Chocolate and malty coffee aroma. Roasted malt richness with smoky demerara sugar notes finished nicely with a nutty dry bitterness. A Dunkel that lives up to its royal heritage. I tried this beer on May 16, 2008 at "C’est What Restaurant" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a dark reddish brown with a creamy tan coloured head. The aroma was sweet malt, roasted malt, some sugar, and a little hoppish tone. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour is sweet and has a nutty character to it. An excellent beer. tupalev (2605), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 24, 2005 Updated: May 3, 2006On tap, Volo. Dark brown in the glass with a sizeable creamy tan head - a really lovely looking pint. Aroma of malt, some spice, and a nice hop accent. Medium bodies mouthfeel; malt taste but not in a sweet way. Rich tasting, yet quite light and quaffable. This is a very well put together beer - no one element jumps out at you, but what is there goes together quite nicely to make one of the best pints you can have in Toronto. JesseM (660), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Jun 10, 2008 On tap at the Castle in Kitchener. Nice dark brown, translucent, decent white head. This beer was REALLY good. Loaded with cereal grains and malty amazingness. That quintessential dark lager dark bread quality you find in a lot of Dopplebocks, but light and smooth. Some toffe and caramel as well, but very mild. I really hope this one will be brewed more regularly now that the brewery has relocated. I like this even more than the Weiss. Top notch stuff, and a great example of style that is not often seen in our province. Dark bread in a glass of beer! Lubiere (4463), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Mar 26, 2009 A dark clear brown dunkel with a mahogany hue. A wonderful aroma of ginger bread, vanilla, cinnamon hearts. In mouth, a light dunkel with bananas, cinnamon, a bit of ginger, well balanced. A great dunkel, atypical in nature. On tap at C’est What, March 21, 2009.
