Commercial Description:
This hoppy German-style Pilsner is winning the hearts of local brewery loyalists and national award show judges. And its earned the starring role at our anniversary parking lot bash this summer. Moving into the summer months, Deschutes Brewery is celebrating its 18th Anniversary by releasing a Pilsner by the same name. The newest beer in the Bond Street Series, 18th Anniversary Pilsner is a light, refreshing lager that is brewed mostly with Saaz hops from the Czech Republic and 100% Pilsner malt. Eighteenth Anniversary Pilsner might be a bit hoppy for a traditional pilsner but it maintains a delicate flavor profile that showcases our state-of-the-art German brew house and our brewers’ passion for this style of beer.

Strong honey with underlying malty sweetness and herbal, grassy hops apparent. Brilliantly clear blonde body is topped by a low but lasting partial cover of large bubbled white head that leaves some spotty lace. Moderate bitterness over sweet and lightly musty honey flavour. Straw and herbal hops offer counterpoint but are perhaps faded. Sweetness lingers in the aftertaste. Thin, light body is somewhat lifeless in the mouth despite aggressive carbonation. Bottle sampled in Fall, 2006 with beerbuzzmontreal, Cathschlag, GlouGlouBurp, MartinT, Olivier_MTL, Rastacouere and Yowie.

22oz bottle. Medium sweet malted aroma with some grain notes on the nose. Yellow body with big white head. Flavor was sweet malt for the most part with some lemon citrus tang on the finish. Slight lemon aftertaste left on palate.

Bottle: Pale straw, very translucent, moderate white fizzy head, sparce lacing, light carbonation.   Aroma of straw, grass, hay, and oats.   Pale malt flavor, slightly sweet, fairly clean on the back end.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Finish has a little tang to it, remains grassy with very soft sweetness.   Average, a little dull, and certainly decent, but was thinking it might be a bit more for an Anniversary Ale.   Very quaffable on a hot day to say the least.

In a plastic cup at the Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon. Very pale gold, and small head, but remember this was a plastic cup. Nose of hops. Seemed like a classic German pils to me. Very refreshing to drink. Good work on this classic style.

Light golden color with fizzy white head. Light pils aroma with some Saaz-hoppy aroma. Taste is light, crisp and pretty tasty, though a notch or two below some of my favorites in the Pils realm (Victory, Stoudts, Sly Fox, Troegs)

Pours very light and clear with a white head. Flavor is well balanced citrius hops with a light malty sweetness. As pilsners go this one is a standout.
