Commercial Description:
This hoppy German-style Pilsner is winning the hearts of local brewery loyalists and national award show judges. And its earned the starring role at our anniversary parking lot bash this summer. Moving into the summer months, Deschutes Brewery is celebrating its 18th Anniversary by releasing a Pilsner by the same name. The newest beer in the Bond Street Series, 18th Anniversary Pilsner is a light, refreshing lager that is brewed mostly with Saaz hops from the Czech Republic and 100% Pilsner malt. Eighteenth Anniversary Pilsner might be a bit hoppy for a traditional pilsner but it maintains a delicate flavor profile that showcases our state-of-the-art German brew house and our brewers’ passion for this style of beer.

Quickly fading head; light yellow. Decent texture; smooth and rich-feeling, with moderate carbonation. Decent aromas of herbs, earth, flowers and plants. Healthy bitterness to boot. Malts were grainy and bready, with only a mild sweetness (honey and sugared lemons). Dryish finish leaves behind some nice aromas. Not a bad pils.

Pours with a rocky, dissipating head; bready aroma with notes of straw, lemon, spicey hops; light malty flavor and fairly hoppy finish; somewhat astringent and metallic; I’m not very impressed with this.

Bomber poured a clear pale yellow with a minimal white head. Aromas of bread, straw, some earthiness and a touch of lemon. Palate was light bodied and fizzy. Flavors of bread, straw, earthiness and a bit of citrus with a crisp lingering bitter finish.

Draft at Piper’s Creek. Enormous frothy platinum blonde head on top of a rich golden tower of fizz. Looks like it could be industrial or it could be brilliant. Unfortunately, it’s closer to the former. The usual sour, metallic shambles of an industrial mega. Definitely would not have expected such a thing from Deschutes, especially given the effort they’re putting in to spreading the word about this one.

Thanks to Ken B. for this one. Pours pale gold with 1-finger, creamy white head. Aroma of pale malt, grassy hops, slight honey and citrus. The flavor was pale malty, with some honey notes, and a nice, crisp mid-palate burst of hopcitrus, and a very crisp, clean finish.

Head is initially small, frothy/fizzy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is light yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (grain, husks), lightly hoppy (herbs), with notes of tin and soap. Flavor is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately bitter, husky, unclean. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Surprisingly more like a third world lager than a German pilsner. Industrial smelling.

Bomber.Beer is clear, light yellow with a small, white, frothy, mostly diminishing head. The aroma is malty with a light note of very husky toasted grain; Yeasty with a trace of dough. The flavor is lightly sweet, lightly-to-moderately bitter with an average-length, lightly bitter, lightly acidic/dry finish. Unclean aftertaste. The body is light, the texture is watery and the carbonation is lively.

Pours a clear golden color with a medium white head. Earthy hop aroma. Easy drinking but thin, with earthy hop flavorings. Not a bad beer, but Deschutes typically delivers a better product.
