Commercial Description:
"We felt we had to do something special to mark our 19th Anniversary," said brewmaster Larry Sidor, "so we took a vow of silence and brewed our first Belgian style ale ever to be bottled."

The straw colored Strong Golden Ale is made from an impressively international list of ingredients that acknowledge the diverse roots of craft beer. "We used Czech Saaz, Slovenian Golding, Pacific Northwest Liberty, and Brewers Gold hops," said Sidor, "along with French pilsner malt, and Belgian white candy diamonds and bitter orange peel from the island of Curacao for a little extra kick and sizzle."

Deep gold with a white head that holds on. Perfume aroma. Very Belgian. This has a big thick mouth flavor in a belgian-looking beer. Closer to a hopped Tripel. Huge finishing sweetness. Lemons and oranges at finish. Outstanding. 2007 version, is just now coming into its prime. A must-age.

I’m always game for a bomber from Deschutes so I bought a couple bottles of this. This ale appears clear and golden in color; can you imagine that? There is almost no head save for a smattering of white bubbles in the middle of the Chimay chalice. The carbonation is rising steadily from the etching in the bottom. The smells I pick up are faint esters of cloves and thyme (weird). It tastes yeasty and fruity, maybe some apple. Mouthfeel is slightly bubbly to me. This is a good one and really seemed to open up as it warmed, I need to learn to let the bottle sit for awhile outside the fridge before I crack it. I think I will save the other bottle for a while. The alcohol is only barely noticeable. I really like the fact that Deschutes seasonal/big beers are not expensive (with the exception of Abyss which was going for $9 here in Colorado). This beer only cost $3.50 which was a very good price. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 06-27-2007 16:28:39

Smells like a fermenting wildflower field. Yellowish in color, the pour left swirls of long lasting lacing. Very true to style, and an excellent balance of yeast, sweet, and orange peel flavor.

Reviewed at the 2007 Strong Ale Festival A- Clear, dark orange hue, white thin layer of head , slight lacing S- Dominant banana tones, cotton candy, citrus, green apples, subtle alcohol T- Taste is surprisingly light and fruity, bread malts, belgian candy, cherries, banana liquer, dry finish, underwhelming for the style M- Light-bodied, watery texture, low carbonation D- Easy-drinking, but underwhelming and unbalanced, tastes like amped-up Hefe, the finish is a bit off-putting

Bottle Ultra clean honey body with a half inch foamy head. Looks very pretty, very “American Macro Beer”. Nose-clean macro. Taste-apple wine, butter, sticky pine cones, strawberry, sweet, pear, cotton candy.

A golden ale with a thin white head. A perfumey malt with caramel and light vanilla. In mouth, a crisp sweet malt, grainy, with a bit of oranges, alcohol and lingering belgian hops. Almost like a Saison. Medium bodied. Very nice. Bought at Booze Bros, Reno, NV, August 2007.

Bomber. Pours clear gold with a lacy pale yellow head. Soft, sweet aroma of fruit, spice, citrus. Sweet taste is much the same as the nose. The spice shows up again on the finish, but it still feels a little flabby.

A happy, sudsy anniversary. This is number 19 for Deschutes which, only recently, penetrated the Colorado market. The thin mottled white head conceals a standardly gold body (not a commentary on the gold standard), with copious bubbles. The smell is very watery and diluted, with musk and honeydew melon, yeast notes, a low rumbling of hops, honey, sour apple candy, a puff of cotton candy and the general appeal of a trippel. The taste is deeper, starting with a cough medicine and hops flavor burning and coating the throat, and then the beer is thrown into a revitalized taste of candied beets. As the beer warms the taste of bubble gum becomes more apparent, but generally I’m getting a bit sick from this beer. Good smell, but the flavors are bit too sticky and off-set for my gut.
