Commercial Description:
"We felt we had to do something special to mark our 19th Anniversary," said brewmaster Larry Sidor, "so we took a vow of silence and brewed our first Belgian style ale ever to be bottled."

The straw colored Strong Golden Ale is made from an impressively international list of ingredients that acknowledge the diverse roots of craft beer. "We used Czech Saaz, Slovenian Golding, Pacific Northwest Liberty, and Brewers Gold hops," said Sidor, "along with French pilsner malt, and Belgian white candy diamonds and bitter orange peel from the island of Curacao for a little extra kick and sizzle."

Aroma is a nice sweet malt scent with good hop tones and a slight fruit scent. Color is a hazy gold with good carbonation and tight white head. Taste is sweet, smooth and mildly hoppy. Starting with a medium body it goes down with a smooth, creamy feel and a sweet flavor coming on. Finish comes in with a sweet malt flavor that is back with a bitter bite and ends with a bold alcohol feel. In the after taste it leaves you warm with a nice lingering bitterness. This is a tasty brewand I like it, but its no Belgian Ale. There is no Belgian yeast fruity flavor and the alcohol is way to strong.

Jimmack Invitational 07- shared by Eyedrinkale. Golden in color. Aroma is sweet plae malts with muted fruit, and belgian yeast. Taste is the same, this beer seemed too mild for a belgian, not much complexity going on.

Bottle in trade from Jake I think. Well it is a straw colored beer just like they say. The problem is that they shouldhave actually done something special vs try to do something special. This beer misses the mark completely as a BSA. Are you kidding me? Why do all these brewers put some kind of stupid proclamation out and then fill the bottles witha sub-par product??

Pacific Northwest Vacation 2007

8/20/2007: Deschutes 19th Anniversary Golden Ale pours a sparkling golden yellow color with a diminishing white head that is actually audible as it fizzes away. The strong aroma is comprised of sweet tropical fruits and some light yeast and spice. The flavor is also somewhat strong. Its pale maltiness is accompanied by some fruity malt (apple and a hint of orange) and is delicately sweet up front. There is a nice bitterness and peppery quality in the finish that adds a bit of flare, but isn’t overwhelming. This beer has a medium body and ample carbonation. All in all it is a pretty good Strong Golden Ale.

1 pint, 6 fluid ounce bottle (8.7% Alc. By Vol. / 60 IBUs) purchased from the general store in Glacier, Washington (only $4.59) and enjoyed at The Inn At Mount Baker. Rating #56 for this beer...

Hazy golden body with minimal head. Aroma is malty, bready with a touch of spruce hops. Smooth, slightly sweet with a nice malty backbone. Enjoyable throughout as it it warms and becomes slightly sweet with an orange tinge.

Bottle. Pours clear orange with an average, fizzy, white head, lasting, good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (grain, meal), average hops (herbs, grass), heavy yeast (dough, sweat) with notes of pear. Medium bodied, sticky texture, average carbonation and an astringent finish. Average duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness.

Bottle: Golden in color, fairly clear, moderate frothy white head, dies somewhat quickly, spotty lacing, very little carbonation.   Musty basement, pale malts, straw/hay, and slight bubblegum on the nose.   Mealy on the tongue, bready, with a heavy Pilsener like quality.   Rounding out the backside with quite a bit of straw/hay.   Nose was somewhat Belgianesque, but didn’t come across that way on the tongue.   Body and mouthfeel are fairly moderate.   When I think Belgian, I think more funk.   This one just wasn’t funky enough.   Not bad, but overall not that interesting either.

Aroma was belgian earthiness with a light maltiness to it. Flavor was really smooth for being 9% but it had some weird candiness to it. Not a bad golden but just was not all that original.
