Commercial Description:
"We felt we had to do something special to mark our 19th Anniversary," said brewmaster Larry Sidor, "so we took a vow of silence and brewed our first Belgian style ale ever to be bottled."

The straw colored Strong Golden Ale is made from an impressively international list of ingredients that acknowledge the diverse roots of craft beer. "We used Czech Saaz, Slovenian Golding, Pacific Northwest Liberty, and Brewers Gold hops," said Sidor, "along with French pilsner malt, and Belgian white candy diamonds and bitter orange peel from the island of Curacao for a little extra kick and sizzle."

6/30/07 On draught at the Seattle International Beerfest. Aroma is bubblegum esters forward with caramel and a light true malt character. Appearance is a light gold, clear, with an off-white head. Flavor is light, with some sweet malt forward, fruity esters, but overall low complexity. Mouthfeel is low bodied with a medium/high carb feel. Overall, not complex enough, but easy drinking.

This Belgian Strong Ale pours a deep gold color from a 22oz bottle. Small sized, quickly diminishing white foamy head. Aroma is fruity and sweet, touch of peach and apricot. Medium bodied Belgian Strong Ale. Malts are fruity and very sweet. Hops are floral and citrusy and a touch bitter for this beer. Its way to sweet and not very Belgian like in character. Lively carbonation. Has a weird kind of plasticity hoppiness to the finish. Guess I was expecting more from this beer. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is kind of harsh and artificial.

22 oz. bottle - pours clear gold with not hea and little carbonation; stale, spicy aromas followed flat flavors that finish slightly malty; not a very spectacular brew, especially for an anniversary

Bomber poured a clear gold with a lasting white head. Aromas of pineapple, pear, honey and light spice. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of pepper, general fruitiness and light spice with a dry lingering sweet finish. Very noticable alcohol even if it ain’t that big!

Bottle. Slighly hazed, clear dark yellow color with a white head. Sweet malt aroma with strawberry and banana notes. Fruity malt flavor. The carbonation seems pretty high and detracts from the flavor. Banana notes with a sweet finish.

22 oz bottle. Pours a clear golden yellow with a pillowy white head (after a vigorous pour) that retains and leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is yeast and some clove and a little fruit. It’s pretty subdued.

The flavor is slightly sweet malts with some spices that seem a little off - kind of tarry. It has an ashy bitter finish. As it warms, more sugary sweetness, a little melon and alcohol come out. The mouthfeel it medium with sharp carbonation.

Overall, not a very good Belgian. The off-flavors really detract, and the flavors are rather mish-mashed.

650 ml bottle from Bottle Barn, Santa Rosa. Clear golden yellow with a fluffy white head. Banana bread and yeast aroma. Banana and orange taste with hints of spice and a bready finish. Decent overall.

Clear golden, moderate head with decent lacing and retention. Aroma is lighter fruits, a touch of pepper, sweet bready malts. Medium bodied, sweet sugary finish with a syrupy mouthfeel. Alcohol is detectable but hidden well. Sorta like a ’boring’ Belgian Ale with a bigger body.
