Commercial Description:
A crisp, dry altbier with an amber hue, this is an ale made up of Pilsen and Munich Malt with a touch of Roasted Barley for color. The malt is complemented nicely with Challenger & Sterling hops. This has produced a crisp, dry beer with an enticing floral aroma. Original Gravity 1.054. Alcohol Content 5.3%

Notes from 2006 - This beer was pretty distinctly grainey, a strong aroma of cooked grains. The flavor unfortunately is quite average, the aroma had me a little excited, but the flavor was somewhat disappointing. Very light fruitiness, but a little too hoppy to me for the style.

Medium amber bronze w. some head. Cardboard hop aroma, but the flavor surprised with an interesting malt blend with a woody character and some roasted graininess. A young tasting beer that is interesting enough if you can get past the aroma.

Has a slightly sweet and sour aroma, reminiscent of fresh honey. Pale maltiness, also some cooked graineyness in there as well. Some subtle fruit notes, very easy to drink.

(Draft: Deschutes Brewery in Bend, OR) Not sure what the Aloha is referring to, but this is definitely not like the pale beers I’ve had in Hawaii. The nose is lightly malty, fresh-smelling and distinctly grainy, with just a hint of hops. An extended profile for the flavor, it’s grainy, somewhat sweet and lightly fruity, and with much more hops than the nose indicates. Hops kicks into geer in the somewhat crisp finish. Medium bodied, more body than I was expecting, and the beer maintains a substantial palate through to the finish. Dark straw in color, and slightly hazy as are most of the beers they’ve poured for me today. Off-white head fades to a ring, but leaves a spiderweb of lacing behind. Decent, but probably about average for the seasonals on tap today.
