Balanced okay - malt comes through but is subdued by the hops bitterness - which is not all that great because it makes it gives it a little too much tart. Drinkable but overall a little too vanilla, it is very much an ESB. JCB (1799), Durham, North Carolina, USA

It’s hard to make a nice solid ESB, and I think Deschutes has done an admirable job. Amber glow, big malt body, but a nice West Coast hoppy dimension too. Rock solid and well worth it. duffman462 (163), Gainesville, Florida, USA

Aroma is fairly hoppy and fresh with biscuity malt and caramel. Fairly enticing aroma. Body is a light orange amber with a thumb thick unremarkable white head.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 18, 2006 Cold 12oz bottle: Pours a hazy orange amber color with a small, foamy ivory head which dissolves into lacing and bubbles around the edges of the glass. Aroma is of sweet malts, grassy hops, and light citrus. Taste if of sweet malts, grassy hops and notes of citrus. Ending is more sweet than bitter with a hint of sourness. Smooth, medium bodied with playful carbonation. BrewDad (2393), Olympia, Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 13, 2006 [Draft - Bend, Oregon] A dark amber color with a very thing head this had a very floral and spicy flavor. A tad better than the regular bitter. Loved the flavor this is a great EBS. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 4, 2006 Slightly darker amber. Aroma is floral, citrusy, spicy with caramel backing. Again, has a fairly American feel to it, making it not feel that genuine to the style. However, it’s still pretty damn tasty.
