| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Apr 28, 2009 Aroma: Complex aroma of roasted malts, burnet coffee, dried fruits and chocolate.
Appearance: The beer poured deep, dark and brown with a tall tan head. The head crashed leaving a ring of head.
Flavor: It tasted of dried fruits, roasted malts and burnt chocolate. It was surprising very malt. The bitterness framed the malty sweetness.
Mouth Feel: A medium bodied beer with some effervescence.
Overall Impression: The second beer tasted better than the first. An easy beer to drink, full flavored.

Flavor is very smoky and just grows towards the finish. Also some dark chocolate and a bit of coffee. Medium to heavy carbonation, rich mouthfeel. A nice porter. BgThang (118), Texas, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 26, 2009 Had this at the draught house here in austin the day it came out, and met the sales rep for deschutes.
The beer had a small head, the color was pretty dark.
This beer took me by surprise because it was not a big porter by no means. it was more of inbetween a brown and a porter.
the backend had some smoke to it.
This was a very easy to drink beer. You could gulp it no problems, but then you would not taste the beer.
I would find myself picking this up again, and I know my wife will like it. I am glad they that texas (specifically austin) has gotten this beer. It certainly adds more variety to some of the great beers we have here.
The bars in austin that carry this are, flying saucer, draught house, gingerman, woodrows, and opal divine.
also the bottles should start showing up around october or so 2008.

Pours a deep rich dark chocolate color with a tiny tan head. Smells of coffee and dark chocolate. Tastes amazing, toasted coffee, followed by chocolate smoothness. A delightful beer.

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Apr 13, 2009 Updated: Jun 5, 2009Bottle. Pours nearly black, soda colored, with a fairly small tan head which clings to the glass for quite a while. Nose is sweet and malty, with some smoke, coffee, and chocolate hints in the background. Lots of flavors - chocolate, some coffee-like bitterness, a bit of roastiness, and a good balanced level of malt. The carbonation really helps carry a pleasant bitterness to the finish. Wonderfully smooth palate. Exceptional beer for just a regular day, and definitely hard to beat at $7.50 a six pack. daleharshman (202), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 11, 2009 Bottle from Holiday Wine Cellar (Escondido, CA). Pours black with some brownish highlights. Large carbonation bubbles stick to the side of the glass for a while, making this look remarkably like Coke or Pepsi in the glass. The one-finger off-white head quickly dissipates. Moderate aroma of roasted malts with bits of chocolate. Flavor is the same, though the chocolate comes out a bit more and lends some sweetness. The flavor altogether is somewhat on the weak side as is the palate. Finish is dry and leaves a cola-like carbonation impression on the tongue. Kenbeer30 (41), Texas, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Apr 9, 2009 12 oz bottle. I DON’T GIVE ’4’ SCORES. The Deschutes Brewery overwhelmed me with this one. Poured into my shaker. Poured a 2 finger puffy head that persisted. Was thick, like cream, not bubbly like sea foam. Pours the richest of dark chocolate, while not quite black. Nose is sweet malts with smoked notes of mocha espresso. Flavor is rich, complex everything you would expect - Choc, coffee, toffee. But also has a smoked banana (Bananas Foster???) Best Porter I have tasted. Dastrn (115), Warsaw, Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 6, 2009 Pours dark brown with a little red in the light. Almost no head.
The nose is dark chocolate, cherry, and bready malt.
Tastes of chocolate malt, a little burnt cherry, and a nice bitter backend.
All around a nice tasty porter! Very drinkable. Good as a desert beer.
