| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 11, 2008 Black appearing pour, when held up to the light it is rather dark brown throughout. Roast malt aromas, with surprisingly piney hop tones. Mouth feel is a bit lively, but mellows a bit to creamy. Flavor is not that overly descript with roast malt and peatiness. Finishes very clean, not much lingering. I was a little dissapointed with this one, possibly because I had the Obsidian stout previous, it seemed a little bit understated. Will have to give it another try, but I found it a bit average, albeit very drikable. Not going to poo poo it completely though, it is worth getting. Maverick34 (701), New York, USA

Pours a dark, dark brown with a big, aggressive tan head that has great retention and wonderful lacing. Aroma is slight roast with a little chocolate, but there is not a really big nose that I can find. Flavor is rich and creamy with a nice subtle burnt note at the end. There are high spots of chocolate here and there that pop up once in a while. This is one of the smoothest porters I have ever had. This beer is delicious!!! One worth hunting out for sure! cbeers21 (571), Miami, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 28, 2008 On tap. Deep black with decent tan head, not too much lacing. Restrained aromas, and they never really came through even after ample time to warm up. Still the body was full and toasted with a warm peaty smokiness giving way to a prolonged but tempered dusty hop bittering. Solid brew for sure. slimchill (780), Austin, Texas, USA

Pours black with a bubblly brown head, almost inky. The flavor is intense chocolate and coffee, very well rounded with nearly no hop presence outside of balance. Thick palate is completely engulfing and intensely drinkable. RuneStumo (521), FØRRESFJORDEN, Norway

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 17, 2008 The beer’s 700th rating. 2008 Bottle. Took me long enought to rate this. Pours with a large, fluffy brown heead with good lacing and pretty good retention. Very dark brown body. Aroma of chocolate, dust, soot, dry coffee roast, bread metal and caramel. Taste is dirt, macadamian nuts, coffee and a bit of chocolate. Light on the palate for a porter with a slight alcohol presence, creamy and kind of bubbly mouthfeel. Very drinkable. I can see the resemblence to the XX version.
