Wallnut hops aroma. Smoky creany roasted malt flavor with a bit of coffee but not much hops bitterness. Low carbonation and a long smoky aftertaste. tarheels86 (821), Washington DC, USA

To me this has been confused with the Obsidian Stout (which is really a porter). Pours pitch black with a medium tan head. Very creamy mouthfeel albeit a little watery. Great lacing as well. Lots of mocha in the aroma and taste but not much else. I prefer the Obsidian Stout to this by a long shot. kflorence (93), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 18, 2008 Bottle, pours very dark brown and smells heavily of roasted malts and molasses. The flavor is heavily dominated by roasted malts, but the beer also offers some complexity with notes of chocolate, molasses, nuts, fruit (prune?) and nice balance of hops in the finish. This is actually a very nice beer; even though it’s dark, it’s fairly light bodied and very drinkable. A very nice example of a well-balanced porter, perhaps slightly on the malted side, but I enjoy that. Berserkir (38), New York, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 18, 2008 Pours black with a tan head. Aroma and flavor are both heavy on roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Not overly aggressive, however. Beardface (1036), Eugene, Oregon, USA

Pours a beautiful, warm brown and carries you away with a well balanced array of coffee and chocolate flavors. My personal favorite beer of all time, and very affordable as well! tturner (106), , Washington, USA

Great chilled in the summer and served warm in the winter. Dark amber. consistent thick head. Just a hint sweet malt, coffee, chocolate. well balanced, and slightly lacking a boldness of flavor that makes it an easy choice for almost any occasion. leaves no aggressive bitter aftertaste. I usually keep this on hand. stubby (326), Santee, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 5/5 | 12/20 | Oct 6, 2008 I thought this was just a little heavy on the black patent malt. A tad too roasty for me, but a good porter nonetheless. MexiFinn (44), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
