Pours black with a tan head. Very heavy carbonation. Aroma is of malt, caramel, and dark fruit. Creamy mouthfeel. Doesn’t taste much like a porter. It’s very sweet with hints of fruit and caramel malts. Lingering taste of weak coffee. Very drinkable, and worth drinking again.

Great smoky and chocolate taste. By fare and away one of the best beers from Deshutes, and best porter for the price. Only a moderate ABV, but full bodied and substantial.

Soft chocolate and rated malt nose. Molasses color with a slight orange hint when held up to a light, creamy tan head. honey roasted chocolate toast sweetness, balanced by some smoky bitterness. Full carbonation, medium body, with a slight smoky chocolate finish. Really fine Porter, rich and full of flavor, but has a real easy drinking quality to it.

12oz bottle-pours a rich light brown head and black color with red tint. Aroma is ashy, sharpness (acidic?), dark malt-chocolate/cocoa. Taste is rich/sweet dark malt-chocolate/cocoa, ashy/peat, some citrus in background which probably is part of what provides the hops bite. Nicely done northwest porter/black IPA. The aroma had me wondering but JWC215 helped me on that so… Thanks Russ Powell.

Pours black with a white cream top. Smells of dark chocolate malt. Roasted coffee flavor that is followed by a nice light and sweet flavor. Smooth porter.

Dark reddish brown with medium beige head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt coffee and caramel notes. Flavour likewise with a sweet end.

Bought this on a Ferry of all places, on my way to Sausalito, CA, August 2008. Served in a transparent, plastic cup. Dark black/brown: aroma of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee. Medium mouthfeel: might have better impression without plastic cup. Taste chocolate, coffee, caramel.

Dark black body with a fluffy head. Plum in the aroma with a lot of sweet malts. It’s a bit thin on the palate and lacking in flavor but coming in with what I felt was plum and chocolate with a hint of roasted woody nuttiness. Not bad by any means, but not very remarkable.
