Big malt aroma, sweet, chocolaty, toast and nuts. Flavor is similar, nuts, coffee, sweet malts, grain, toast. Slightly chalky on the palate with plenty of carbonation. Drinkable, but served next to the Obsidian, this was a let down. dmac (1466), Toms River, New Jersey, USA

Pours a solid black medium to slightly thin looking body with a large light beige foamy head. Aroma of bittersweet chocolate that has a slight touch of chalk and some bitter citrus rind aroma finishes it off. Medium to slightly thin body with lots of carbonation. Perhaps the carbonation seems so strong since the body is a little thin? Flavor very close to the aroma but after the first few sips the chalk flavor disappears, or maybe I simply became used to it. What is left is roasted malts, chocolate and some bitter citrusy hops that finsihes on the sweet side. An okay Porter but I prefer to see more roasty/toasted notes and less sweetness. ilovedarkbeer (1365), Dallas, Texas, USA

Nose is roasted and chocolate and some coffee. Taste is about the same. This beer is highly quaffable and feels soft in the mouth. anders37 (4700), Malmö, Sweden

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 7, 2008 Pours black with a small head. Aroma is faint and has a little light rasted malt and cocoa. Flavor has some malt, citrus, and mineral notes and a little apple or other fruity sweetness.. Mothfee is watery, esp. for a porter. Finish, oddly enough, brings out the most flavor and is like roasted malt and cocoa. Pours dark with a very nice red amber hue to it. Head is thick, but very small. Goes down sweet, finishes with a roasted chocolate/coffee flavor and settles on the palate very well. Pour into a very frosty glass for best flavor.
