Chocolate was too lite in both aroma and taste. Deschutes is a great brewery so I hold their releases to a high standard. They can do better than this. JonR888710 (999), Cochabamba, Bolivia
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 2, 2008 12 oz bottle at New Otani Hotel, watching sunset on Waikiki beach. Pours a very dark mahogany with a think, sandy brown head. Aroma is all chocolate and pacific northwest hops. Taste is same, really good and full-bodied. The malts are really roasted dark giving caramel, dark roasted coffee and other burnt grain flavors. Really glad to find this beer as I’ve never seen it on the east coast before. elmatador00 (518), j-action-ville, North Carolina, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 18, 2008 Bottle. Pours deep, nearly opaque brown with wispy beige head. Aroma is roasted grain, dark chocolate and nuttiness. Flavor is toastiness with a light touch of smoke, spice, hints of bitterness and sour cherry fruitiness. Palate is lively, creamy, a bit on the the thin side - but I actually thought this made it nice for a session. Really good. apshah99 (144), Portland, Oregon, USA

Malty roasty taste with a little bit of caramel and chocolate, slightly bitter finish. A little thin bodied, very drinkable. An everyday winter drinker for me.
