Bottle. Pours deep, nearly opaque brown with wispy beige head. Aroma is roasted grain, dark chocolate and nuttiness. Flavor is toastiness with a light touch of smoke, spice, hints of bitterness and sour cherry fruitiness. Palate is lively, creamy, a bit on the the thin side - but I actually thought this made it nice for a session. Really good.

Pours a dark brown with thin tan creamy head. Wonderful sweet malty aroma. Malty roasty taste with a little bit of caramel and chocolate, slightly bitter finish. A little thin bodied, very drinkable. An everyday winter drinker for me.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with jake65. Pours a very, very dark brown that allows just a glimmer of light to pass when held against the sun. Moderate tan head that lasted to the end and left sheets of lace all the way down. Very pleasant aroma of lightly roasted malt, chocolate and just a bit of raisins. The flavor is nice with the same lightly roasted malt and chocolate along with a bit of tobacco in the aftertaste. Mildly bitter at the finish. Medium-light bodied and quite smooth. Very enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours in dark, nearly black with a thin beige head. The aroma was malty, earthy with some burnt aroma and some nuttiness. The flavor is malty with notes of chocolate and dark vinous fruits the most pronounced. Slightly sweet with an earthy malty finish which is slightly bitter. Mouth feel is light to medium. Pleasant not outstanding.

1/1/08 with Bikesanbeer, and Deschutes was open even though we thought we it wouldn’t be open till the next day, 6th brewery of the trip. Pours black with a half finger brown head. Nose is sweet and amazingly nice. Taste is nice and sweet, great porter, nice to have it at the source.

Trade thanks to bockyhorsey. Pours a dark chestnut color with minimal head. Dark roasted grain is the most obvious aroma but there is an interesting twist to that actually makes to smell like the brew will be “quenching” if you get my meaning. The flavor is not quenching. You get lots of ash, tar, burnt caramel, woodish hints and big burnt grain. Surprisingly there is a touch of apple to this one. Wet mouth feel with a dryish touch of ash at the finish. Not too bad.

It poured brown, not black. Fairly thin seeming, and a decent. Active medium off-white head. Malty and light sweet coffee aroma. Nice carbonation and fairly roasty dark flavors to follow the nose. Not huge, but quaffable. Will enjoy a couple more from the rather inexpensive six-pack.
