Bottle. Pours in dark, nearly black with a thin beige head. The aroma was malty, earthy with some burnt aroma and some nuttiness. The flavor is malty with notes of chocolate and dark vinous fruits the most pronounced. Slightly sweet with an earthy malty finish which is slightly bitter. Mouth feel is light to medium. Pleasant not outstanding.

1/1/08 with Bikesanbeer, and Deschutes was open even though we thought we it wouldn’t be open till the next day, 6th brewery of the trip. Pours black with a half finger brown head. Nose is sweet and amazingly nice. Taste is nice and sweet, great porter, nice to have it at the source.

Trade thanks to bockyhorsey. Pours a dark chestnut color with minimal head. Dark roasted grain is the most obvious aroma but there is an interesting twist to that actually makes to smell like the brew will be “quenching” if you get my meaning. The flavor is not quenching. You get lots of ash, tar, burnt caramel, woodish hints and big burnt grain. Surprisingly there is a touch of apple to this one. Wet mouth feel with a dryish touch of ash at the finish. Not too bad.

It poured brown, not black. Fairly thin seeming, and a decent. Active medium off-white head. Malty and light sweet coffee aroma. Nice carbonation and fairly roasty dark flavors to follow the nose. Not huge, but quaffable. Will enjoy a couple more from the rather inexpensive six-pack.

Black with thin creamy head. Roast, chocolate, and sweet malt aroma notes. Roast, chocolate, and hops balancing finish. Mild hop bitter finish that off-set the sweet malt notes.

I thought it was a very solid porter overall. Light black/dark brown and a thin head. Nice cocoa flavor and nice bit of malt flavor. I thought it was a good porter, but nothing really stood out that much. I thought it was a little thin.

Strong, yet smooth porter. Tastes of chocolate and toasted malt. A little fizzy for a porter. Light chocolate aroma. Not a particularly complex flavor, but very smooth and substantial porter.

Bottle. Pours a nice deep brown with a creamy head. Aroma is that of cocoa and malt. Tastes very smooth with light cocoa flavors and roasted malt.
