Nose and flavor of roasted malts, little bit of chocolate, slightly bitter finish. A little thin on the palate. Meh. donovan1983 (52), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 29, 2007 I’ve had this on tap a couple times at Old Chicago and just brought home a 6-pack of bottles. Has a nice nearly black colour with a quickly diminishing tan head. Roasted malt aroma with some hop notes. Has a dark roasted malt flavour with a good amount of dark chocolate hints, just a little bit sweet. Has just the right amount of hops to balance things out. The roast and chocolate flavours stay through the finish. Mouthfeel is a little thinner than expected, but perfectly mated to the flavour. A very pleasant, easy to drink porter that I keep reaching for. AdamSkillin (376), High Bridge, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 26, 2007 Gotta say I love this beer. It’s got those hickory notes when it approaches proper temperature and that chocolateyness that Ican’t get enough of. Awesome. illinismitty (1797), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 21, 2007 Draft at Taphouse Grill in downtown Seattle. Pours deep brown with a beige head. Aroma of dark caramel, molasses, and hazlenut. Medium bodied but with a thin texture. Initial flavor of a bolder nut brown ale with moderate sweetnes. This transitions to to some tame roastiness and smoke mid palate. Just enough hops to keep it in balance. Finish is smooth.. Like a brown porter, this is not very aggressive. However, this is well made and would be a beer for those days where you want to give the palate a rest. alexsdad06 (1081), Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Aug 17, 2007 12 oz. bottle courtesy of kenb. Thanks Ken! Pours a dark brown color with a medium mostly lasting beige head. There is visible carbonation. The aroma is sweet with roasted malt, some chocolate, and a hint of coffee. The flavor is very much the same as the aroma. There is a sweetness that underlies everything else. Dark chocolate, roasted malts, and coffee. A hint of dark fruit. Medium bodied. Easy drinking beer. jdp (54), Texas, USA

Smells of faint black licorice and malt. Tastes caramel, malt, and a touch of black licorice. Slightly smoky aftertaste with a slight hop taste. Good and smooth. Nice porter. haggis03a3 (136), Piedmont, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 12, 2007 On tap at their pub. Sweet coffee caramel malts with some bitterness. Black with a tan head. I liked the malts quite a bit and it reminded me of a slightly less complex fuller’s. jhumphries69 (727), Tyrone, Georgia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 10, 2007 Pours an opaque black with a medium-sized tan head. The aroma has some chocolate and lots of caramel. The flavor is much sweeter than I was expecting. It is heavy with sweet malts and caramel (lots of diacetyl) and some chocolate. The mouthfeel is creamy and mildly carbonated, and it is full-bodied. Overall, not what I was hoping, but not bad.
