I liked the malts quite a bit and it reminded me of a slightly less complex fuller’s. jhumphries69 (736), Tyrone, Georgia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 10, 2007 Pours an opaque black with a medium-sized tan head. The aroma has some chocolate and lots of caramel. The flavor is much sweeter than I was expecting. It is heavy with sweet malts and caramel (lots of diacetyl) and some chocolate. The mouthfeel is creamy and mildly carbonated, and it is full-bodied. Overall, not what I was hoping, but not bad. tangentrider (144), USA

Black Butte Porter pours a deep brown with faint mahogany highlights when held to the light. A one finger creamy tan head forms on the pour and stays put. Leaves drink lines after each sip. A very classy looking beer.
Toasted malts highlight the aroma. Hazelnut and cream layer nicely over the maltiness. Mild cocoa on the finish. Not much of a hop presence.
Very nicely layered flavor for this porter. Toasted malt starts things off in the flavor department. Cream and mild chocolate come up mid palate and slowly fade to a pleasant coffee ground bitterness on hte swallow. Mild hop bitterness on the swallow as well. Nicely done.
Mouthfeel is this beers weak point. The body is just a little too light. It’s not off by much and there is some creaminess on the swallow but it’s just a little too thin.
The thin mouthfeel actually helps the drinkability. Not as big and filling as some other porters. Easy drinker.
A good solid porter from Deschutes that would be a common occurance in my fridge if it was available in this neck of the woods.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 2, 2007 This draft brew from the Portland Airport poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized off-white colored bubbles that were fully diminished and left behind a semi-opaque except around the edges no visible carbonation dark brown colored body. The mild aroma was brown malt. The thick mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish dark malt aftertaste. The flavor contained notes of mild hops dark malt and brown malt. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again. frink (467), coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada

Starts with decent malt sweetness, light bitter chocolate, coffee and toffee. A bit of Twizzlers and molasses. Good carbonic tang and very little bitterness. Mild sweet finish with some nutty bitterness. A bit watery but nice.
