| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 20, 2007 I thought this tasted a lot like the obsidian stout, as I had them one after the other--except that this would have to be considered slightly better since it is a porter. The mouthfeel is the same as well as the flavor of roasted malt and light chocolate. Not impressed. drawde (115), San Francisco, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 20, 2007 Very dark color, very full, heavy taste. Porters always taste sweet to me, in contrast to stouts which taste dry to me. On that criteria, I could definitely indentify this as a porter. It’s rich, full, sweet, an heavy. The color is absolutely impenetrable. A fair amount of head when pouring. Tastes like prune and coffee. Really nice porter. iowaherkeye (1876), Los Angeles, California, USA

Pours a deep mahogany with a one finger brown head with decent retention. Aroma of roasted malt, char, brown sugar, and some baker’s chocolate. Unfortunately, the aroma is kind of mild. Flavor is again char and roasted malts, some chocolate, light spicy alcohol (wtf? @5.2%?), mild fruitiness, and dry char finish. This is a bit thin on the palate with moderate carbonation. Overall pretty nice. NachlamSie (1650), Tennessee, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Apr 13, 2007 bottle split with Muenster. Pours a rich, dark ruby/black with a small tan head. The nose is very English with hints of toffee, smoke, cashews. The flavor is quite excellent, I was craving something like this. It has a pleasant ashy, smoky flavor with a fruity backdrop reminiscent of pears. Hints of toffee, caramel, tree bark, and soil are present as well. Very, very tasty. muenster (341), Sevierville, Tennessee, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 13, 2007 Updated: Aug 23, 2008Bottle, split with NachlamSie. Pours dark chestnut brown with a foamy tan head. Aroma is full of smooth English style chocolate malts, as well as some muted hops. Flavor is very lively, yet smooth, as the hops seem to tingle in the mouth while the rich malt coats the palate, finishes slightly dry and bitter like coffee. golubj (1290), Sunnyvale, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 3, 2007 Bottle. Roasted chocolate aroma. Flavor is also of roasted chocolate malt, but somewhat sweet. Good for the style. GuilTTy (538), Cherry Hill, New Jersey, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 31, 2007 On tap at SeaTac airport overlooking the Cascades. Opaque deep brown pour supporting a medium light khaki head with a thin curtain of lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, semi-sweet chocolate, coffee and nuts. Sweet but well balanced flavor with chocolate and coffee at the forefront followed by whispers of licorice and vanilla. Silky mouthfeel and a lasting clean finish with a nice kiss of bitter hops. Given the setting, almost any beer - aside from the industrial swill - would have been perfect. If you’re traveling through Seattle, don’t pass up a fresh Deschutes.
