Smokey, big chocolate aroma with coffee; fragrant and rich. Light and crisp body, big flavorful malt. Lots of chocolate and café ole flavors as well. A pretty great porter.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 12, 2009 Pours like a stout - black, with a creamy head - a lot of roasted malt in the aroma, coffee bitterness, a nearly tannic quality, bakers chocolate - creamy mouthfeel, medium body - moderately bitter and quite roasty, with a slightly ashy quality that detracts from the enjoyment a bit - some vanilla and chocolate mix in late - finish of coffee and ash - starts out strong, but falls a little flat. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 9, 2009 Bottle (in NZ). Pours black with a light beige foamy head. Roasted black malt is big on the nose, with a whiff of bitter chocolate. Slightly oxidised unfortunately, but there is still plenty of chocolate in the roasted malt palate. Would be better fresh. skmikeg (79), Poway, California, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 1, 2009 Good and surprisingly drinkable. Lightly creamy and medium to light bodied. Roasted caramel malt flavor with some dark chocolate. Slightly sweet in the taste. Lightly dry finish was excellent. Some extra strength would have improved this beer. Strong roasted malt aroma. j12601 (1327), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Aug 29, 2009 12oz bottle courtesy of Cavie poured into an English pint glass. The pour fit perfectly into this large glass because of it’s big three-finger tan head, which sat on top of a dark brown, almost black, brew that shows plenty of red when put up to the light. The aroma is nice - a mixture of sweet chocolate malts with a touch of sour and a hint of that salty almost soy sauce like aroma. The flavor is smooth milk chocolate with a touch of sour and a mild coffee finish that blends nicely. The mouthfeel on this puppy is smooth, creamy, and amazingly easy to drink.
