Jun 15, 2009 Truly Stunning craftsmanship of a beer. This beer can and will rival the abyss. Pours dark brown with a nice thin tan head. Aroma is very roasty caramel and chocolate with the hint of a morning java trip. Mouth feel is intense with full body warmness and very balanced carbonation. Flavor is as complex and most rewarding of any imperial porter I have had. The bourbon hint is upfront and not over powering. The palette is greeted with lots of coffee and intense dark chocolate flavor. This finish is surprising bitter to give you the sense that the hops were carefully planned on this one. WOW!!! I can’t wait to ages this beer.

Jun 10, 2009 Many thanks to drgonzo for cracking open this amazing brew. Thick, burnt brown/black body with a frothy brown head and streaky lacing. In your face aroma of bitter dark chocolate, creamy coffee and layers upon layers of burnt, roasted, toasted malts. Plenty of molasses along with some fig and raisin notes. Viscous with a mellow creaminess and just an ever so faint alcohol bite. Drinks slowly and sticks with you. A solid bitterness helped to even things out. Flavor mirrors the intense aroma but the hops are much more noticeable. Big, bold and wonderful. A bountiful, beautiful brew.

Jun 6, 2009 Absolutely in love with this one. Expresso grinds, dark chocolate,vanilla, roasty and toasty. A bit of bourbon and fruit, oak is noticeable on the finish. Strong alcohol warmth with a thick, creamy, syrupy body.

May 16, 2009 Dark pour with thin brown head a spotty lace. Coffee and vanilla on the nose. Big roasty flavor almost smokey, coffee, chocolate, bourbon and raisins This is the second time I’ve had this and I have to say the alcohol has mellowed out quite a bit

May 7, 2009 Super dark an nice and rich. Aroma is sweet, vanilla, wood. Taste is smooth and not too hot. Flavors of chocolate and coffee stand out too The right touch of bourbon, creamy and really good.

Apr 30, 2009 Black pour with a near black head. Seriously dark for a beer. Up front coffee and bourbon aroma. Flavor lends some licorice, cherry, oak, more coffee, chocolate, and caramel. Just a tad thin, noticeably boozy but not in a bad way.

Apr 28, 2009 22 oz bomber shared with Todd in Wisconsin. Pours a cola black with a medium tan head. Aroma of strong roasted chocolate malts and bitterness. Taste of roasted chocolate malts, bitterness and unsweetened dark chips. A bit on the strong side.

Apr 25, 2009 Bottle from Roundballref. Very dark, almost black pour. Aromas of smoky oak, chocolate and coffee. Very similar flavors and an additional hint of dark fruit with some sweetness. Very good beer. Am a fan of the normal black butte and this is nothing like it. Very big, bold flavors, smooth and solid feel. Deschutes with another winner...
