Avengedpoet (325), Mesa, Arizona, USA Apr 2, 2009 Popped the top on this one for my anniversary with my fiancee, and it was quite worth the occasion I must say. Pours liquid black with a small beige head that quickly dissappears. Aroma is quite a bit like an imperial stout...but theyre so closely related that is no fault. Lots of malt sweetness, some coffee, toffee, and bourbon notes. Taste is rather reminiscent of Stone RIS, except that the flavor is filled out a little more. The minute amount of bourbon, oak, and coffee taste really fill in the minor gap on my palate left by their amazing beer. This one was quite amazing and well worth whatever I paid for it. Wish I had bought two. And we made cupcakes with it! Kevin (1917), Colorado, USA Mar 30, 2009 highly carbonated dark black. smells like someone got drunk and rolled in chocolate syrup.chocolate, strong lingering intense roast coffee, hoo boy. warming alcohol presence. this one won’t sneak up on anyone. the coffee is dominating a bit too much for me at the moment, but still an enjoyable beer.
4 9 7 3 16 SudsMcDuff (1691), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston, Texas, USA Mar 26, 2009 pours a dark black .. great coco head .. light roast in the nose ... pretty tasty stuff, needs a bit of time to make it great ... could be a session beer in its ease ...i will revisit in a yea or too.. notalush (2627), Denver, Colorado, USA Mar 18, 2009 Thanks to WeeHeavySD for this one - pours thinner than I expected, but she’s got a nice black/dark ruby color, and a dark tan lace - nose of roasted and chocolate malts, cocoa, espresso, and moderate hints of bourbon and alcohol heat - slick mouthfeel, creamy body, but the body is only around medium, which is on the light side for its strength - semi-astringent coffee bitterness, medium sweet chocolate, mild bourbon notes - some bittersweet dark chocolate on the end, and a hint of oaky tartness - it’s nice to have the barrel/bourbon elements subdued and well-integrated, but I would hardly call this outstanding - I need to stop seeking out bourbon-aged beers - I really do. dogfish120love (250), west hartford, Connecticut, USA Mar 18, 2009 On tap at Yard House Las Vegas. Pours a dark brown with a thin head. Roasted malt mild chocolate and very mellow compared to what I expected. Not overly sweet and almost refreshing. The alcohol is hidden pretty wel. fonefan (10868), VestJylland, Denmark Mar 15, 2009 Bottle 66cl. @ LCRBM 2008, ’s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands Clear dark black color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, light brown head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, coffee, cacao, cabbage, radishes notes, bourbon. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium to full, texture is oily - creamy, carbonation is soft - flat. [20081025] StFun (535), Indiana, USA Mar 9, 2009 Delicious. Pours a rich, creamy black with a great looking tan head. Aroma is melted chocolate and roast, with the perfect amount of malt and grain. Flavor delivers on the melted chocolate...lots of melted chocolate. Great balance of hops, coffee, and vanilla, all working together to achieve a fantastic complexity. Huge roasted grain profile on the backend. Mouthfeel is unreal, thick and rich, almost like a milkshake. I need a case of this. slowrunner77 (58), reno, USA Feb 28, 2009 "a little harsh (maybe hops, maybe from the cocoa nibs?)...i’d prefer it be barrel aged/blended at 50% or more instead of 33%, but that is really nit-picking. This is an imperial porter squared. great big chewy flavors, nose, and complexity throughout. Don’t know if it’s worth the price more than a couple times, but i’m glad i tried it."
