sloth (1658), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA Jan 11, 2009 Medium sized light brown head, retention is good, lacing as well. Lovely black appearence. Mellow nose of smooth chocolate, roast, faint whisky and coffee. Body is medium, soft carbonation, creamy and smooth on yer tongue. Bittersweet chocolate flavors, strong cocoay notes, light licorice notes and laid back whisky flavors melded well together. Hints of caramel and wood finishing it off with a surprising bite in the end. A real treat. Sorry you did,nt get any Robert but i,ll take care of that too! Bomber from agentsteve, thanks bro! One more bomber left to share thanks to footbalm, sweet Eric! daknole (2805), Plantation, Florida, USA Jan 11, 2009 I got a bottle from santa and 5000...this beer is AWESOME! Pours a nice black color with a good tan head. Aroma is very sweet. Chocolate and coffee hit first, followed by bourbon, molasses and some nice roasted malt. Flavor is full of chocolate, coffee, anise, vanilla. Mouthfeel is perfect. Man what a great brew. eaglefan538 (2355), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jan 10, 2009 Bottle shared by sloth at the SSSSLT. Poured the usual deep dark black color with a choco colored head, solid retention. The aroma was chocolate and firm roasty notes. The flavor was chocolate, bitter cocoa, firm and bitter roasted notes too, faint wood in the background (not much else from "aging"). The flavor profile on this one was solid, things melding together quite well. Mouthfeel was slightly acidic, smooth, velvety, very nice. Thanks, Bert, a very nice selection. BrewCzar (108), St Louis, Missouri, USA Jan 6, 2009 Bottle pours black with a light brown thin head. Aroma is sweet, roasted almonds, black licorice, and roasted malts. Tons of flavor to this one. Dark roasted malts with a vanilla sweetness, coffee, with noticeable hints of bourbon and oak and a slightly bitter chocolate finish. Coats the mouth with goodness. badbeer (432), Iowa, USA Jan 4, 2009 Pours black, but brown around the edges with a tan head that retains pretty well. Smell of anise, roast, vanilla, ash, and the smell of green wood on a still living tree. Same thing with the living wood in the taste, as well as cocoa, vanilla, caramel, charcoal, and some roastiness. Thicker than medium body and light carbonation; quite smooth. Pretty tasty, though I don’t know that I’d worry about getting more of this. fredandboboflo (1395), East Setauket, New York, USA Jan 1, 2009 Bottle. Aroma of roasted malt, smoke, wood, dry wood and green wood, a hint of dark fruits. Some caramelized vegetables as well. Flavor again has the dry, but still somehow lively, wood with the sweeter caramel and malty aspects blending in. Interesting and tasty beer. kramer (2407), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 30, 2008 22 oz bottle. Pours a clear dark brown body with a one finger fizzy dark brown head. Some decent retention for being so thin looking. The nose has loads of coffee. Cocoa, roast, light vanilla, wood, and maybe a bit of bourbon. Very thick and hearty smelling. The flavor is dry and roasty up front with lots of cocoa powder. A slight astringent bite going on. Fades to a very lightly bourbon laced finish with touches of oak. Mouthfeel is pretty full and thick with moderate fizzy prickly carbonation. Much sweeter on the lingering finish. Overall, this was alright, but not one that blew me away at all. SQNfan (591), Wheaton, Illinois, USA Dec 30, 2008 This poured black in color with a moderate brown head of fine bubbles that fades away. When sniffing this immediately reminded me of toffee dipped in chocolate with nuts. This was followed by dark fruit, woodsmoke, mild bourbon, asparagus and a peppery spice. In the mouth it was medium to bull-bodied with concentrated flavor and a rich midpalate balanced by the carbonation. Overall, this has nice sweetness, dominated by toffee in both the nose and mouth, to it and good complexity. This appears as it it will age well for 6 - 12 months but beyond that the sweetness may overpower.
