Smooth belgian chocolate, hint of roast/coffee, and light vanilla a combine to form a really nice aroma. The flavor has chocolate and cocoa, hints of coffee, vanilla, and then a nice wham of bourbon. There is also a lingering flavor of coffee and cream. This beer is medium-full, really smooth, and coats the palate well. The bourbon really opens up more when it warms. This is a very nicely crafted barrel-aged beer. It is definitely a big improvement over the regular Black Butte Porter!

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 26, 2008 Head gone in less than 1 second, over ink-black beer. Ink, c-hops at large, meat-gravy smell, soy sauce. Nearly bitter hops overlay, but still, the sweet-alcoholic character dominates. Black fruits in the finish, some cardemoms and pepper. Very thick, syrupy and viscous. Ah. This one is difficult, as it starts nearly lame, but gradually complexity builds up, layered as an onion. This is actually quite good and complex.
