Commercial Description:
XX - 20th Anniversary, released 2008
XXI - 21st Anniversary, released 2009

This masterpiece is a tribute to Black Butte Porter, the revolutionary Deschutes Brewery beer that has excited beer enthusiasts since 1988. This special Reserve Series release is a colossal version of Black Butte Porter. Our brewers enhanced Black Butte XXI by adding some Theo’s Chocolate cocoa nibs from Seattle, dry-hopping it with 100 pounds of Bellatazza’s locally roasted coffee, and then aging a portion of it in Stranahan’s Colorado whiskey barrels. These regional partners provided quality artisan ingredients that give this commemorative beer a truly handcrafted complexity.
Released as Black Butte XX in 2008 to celebrate our 20th Anniversary.

Bottle @ LCRBM 2008. Licorice, salt, butter and coffee in the aroma. Roast, coffee, plums in the sugary sweet flavor. Very nice, surprisingly drinkable beer.

Bottle@LCRBM08. Chocolate aroma with a hint of toffee. Black colour, light brown head, good lace. Sweet, chocolate, loads of licorice, fruity, sticky. Strong flavors, highly drinkable although 11% ABV.

Bottle from Nugget in Vacaville?!? Kudos to Nugget for keeping a great beer selection, although I’ve never seen this one at any other Nugget market (Davis/Woodland Nugget?). Anyway, this one had the strong taste of coffee, almost like the Speedway stout except it didn’t hit that level on the flavor or palate. Still, what a great example of an aged IP. I might become a polygamist and marry a bourbon barrel.

Pours a very nice thick black color, very nice carbonation, with a nice thick/creamy, tannish head, which leaves some nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is a big malt bomb, lots of chocolate/toffee/coffee, nice touch of hops, with some bourbon. The taste is slightly sweet, malty, big chocolate/toffee/coffee notes, nice touch of bourbon. Full body, the alcohol is hidden very well with this brew. Very drinkable, this is one tasty brew, a nice balance of ingredients. Thanks Russ and Toby.

Dark black pour with a thin tan creamy head. Smell is malt and is sweet with a touch of coffee and perhaps then a touch of rubbing alcohol. Flavor is malty and sweet and a touch of dusty cardboard. Mouthfeel is decent - nothing spectacular.

22 oz bottle. Dark brown with a smooth tan head. Nose is chocolate cake, coffee and molasses. Yum. Medium body with a sharp tang. Tastes like a dark chocolate egg cream with a bitter, coffee bean bite. Alcohol grows with the finish but i didn’t pick up the bourbon. Needs some softening.

I can’t say enough about this beer. Had it on tap and it was simply exceptional. Hands down the best Imperial Porter I’ve ever tried. Dark, rich, with wonderful taste...a must have if you can get your hands on it.

Bottle from tyler. Dark black in color, decent head and good lacing. Strong aroma of chocolate and coffee. Taste is pretty much the same. Lots of coffee, roasted malt, chocolate all blended together. Good texture and carbonation level. I wouldnt of guessed it to be 11 percent, the alcohol was hiddent very well. Overall a tasty beer. Thanks tyler
