| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 21, 2008 I thought this was fab. Bottle from Lee’s Disco in Vegas. Great full nose of chocolate and coffee beans. Flavor is also quite huge with the same dark chocolate, just enough bourbon barrel to bring out vanilla, and a fringe of cinnamon. Avoids the finishing sharpness of The Abyss. hopscotch (5472), Vero Beach, Florida, USA

Pours very dark brown with a large, tight, khaki head. Great retention. The rich mocha nose displays a touch more espresso and cream than chocolate. Suggestions of vanilla and sourmash also ascend from my glass. Full-bodied with a velvety-smooth mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. The flavor mirrors the aroma, but also provides wonderful gobs of caramel. Finishes smooth and rich. Thanks to growler for providing this terrific bottle of beer! | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Sep 18, 2008 22 oz bottle. This is so freakin’ tasty. Aroma of sweet roasted malts, coffee, and hint of chocolate. Flavor is similiar, but much more complex. There is a mild touch of oakiness underlining the flavor, which is just perfect, not overbearing. I was surprised to see that it has an ABV of 11%, it is undetectable. Creamy mouthfeel, with a clean sweet finish. A must try! Beerman6686 (1281), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 17, 2008 Pours a nice black color with a light tan head. Aroma is very dry, burnt coffee, leather, and some smoke. Flavor was also very dry, nothing standing out, but not in a bad way, all the complex flavors meld together very well and the alcohol is hidden extremely well. jerc (3888), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Moderate aroma of coffee grounds, light malt and alcohol is milder than anticipated for a big brew. (7+) Flavour has lovely sweet malt base with a kiss of chocolate and roast. Bitter coffee blends well with the bourbon character in the finish. Light bourbon in the aftertaste with anise kissed roast. Nice overall but ultimately leaves a lasting coffee impression that is not to my taste. (7+) Smooth medium to full bodied palate. A pretty solid beer but not one that I personally love. This dark brown ale poured with a bubbly tan head and a chocolate aroma. There is an intense chocolate and roasted coffee flavor with an alcohol trailer that remains on the palate for a while. Very, very tasty. zathrus13 (1296), Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA

Aroma is roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, and a touch of bourbon. Flavor is chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, alcohol, and smaller amounts of bourbon and hops. Really good, but a bit more bourbon would have made it better.
