Strong roasted coffee and chocoalte aromas with a clear alcohol presence and plenty of bourbon. Taste is very much the same, with the bourbon coming on a bit stronger. Bitter dark chocolate, french roasted coffee, berries, hops, and cocoa powder meld for a powerful flavor profile. Medium to full body, low carbonation, slight lingering hops, but the coffee and chocolates dominate the aftertaste. This is great. I have been a fan of black butte for a long time but i have to say this takes that great beer to a whole new level.
Poured dark brown almost black with a pretty thin but persistant carmel head. Tasted like the mature brother of black butte the fiinish was suprisingly alcoholic but at 11% i guess it makes sense. other then that pretty stong taste if moca which a rather dry body. gingerspice111 (1), Carlsbad, California, USA does not count | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 11, 2008 This beer makes me fall in love with heavy dark beers all over again. Deep chocolate finish with rich coffee hints. I want to drink this beer all winter long. I would drink this as a after dinner or dessert beer. I may be just a girl, but I can tell an awesome beer when I taste one. coyotehunter (548), , Michigan, USA

Pours a deep oily dark brown with a thin tan head. Aromas are heavy on dark chocolate, Dark ripe fruits, Some oaky bourbony smells, and a hint of coffee. Big flavors of licorice and chocolate up front followed by the bourbon and vanilla. Mouthfeel is a touch watery but given what it is, it goes down so damn smooth. hallinghansen (266), Odense SV, Denmark

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 14, 2008 Updated: Jul 25, 20092008 Strong Ale Fest (Boulder, CO): Deep burgundy with a nice head. Intense aromas of coffee wafted up. Creamy smooth; full body. Drenched in sweetness (syrup, caramel, chocolate). Big, bold flavors and aromas of espresso and cream. Lesser notes (but still strong) of vanilla bean and dark chocolate. Mild bitterness fecklessly tried to keep up. Very tasty beer, albeit a bit too sweet for me. RERATE (bottle): Murky darkness. Rich and thick like a milkshake. Silky, too. Fruity alcohol and cocoa nose. Sour lactic intensity. Super-dark roast, tar, black licorice, bitter chocolate and espresso. Hoppy bitterness. Warming in the back of the throat. Great stuff.
