Commercial Description:
XX - 20th Anniversary, released 2008
XXI - 21st Anniversary, released 2009

This masterpiece is a tribute to Black Butte Porter, the revolutionary Deschutes Brewery beer that has excited beer enthusiasts since 1988. This special Reserve Series release is a colossal version of Black Butte Porter. Our brewers enhanced Black Butte XXI by adding some Theo’s Chocolate cocoa nibs from Seattle, dry-hopping it with 100 pounds of Bellatazza’s locally roasted coffee, and then aging a portion of it in Stranahan’s Colorado whiskey barrels. These regional partners provided quality artisan ingredients that give this commemorative beer a truly handcrafted complexity.
Released as Black Butte XX in 2008 to celebrate our 20th Anniversary.

Bottle from Windy City. Black pour with a smallish dirty brownish head. Strong roasted malty aroma. Quite a bit of chocolate and coffee. A little alcohol as well. Rich roasted flavor with some sweetness. Good roasted coffee flavors. A little bitterness and alcohol in the finish. A very potent and tasty brew.

Bottle shared by sloth at the SSSSLT. Poured the usual deep dark black color with a choco colored head, solid retention. The aroma was chocolate and firm roasty notes. The flavor was chocolate, bitter cocoa, firm and bitter roasted notes too, faint wood in the background (not much else from "aging"). The flavor profile on this one was solid, things melding together quite well. Mouthfeel was slightly acidic, smooth, velvety, very nice. Thanks, Bert, a very nice selection.

Bottle at a Club-Tasting (Thanks Sune). Black - Brown head. Burned, chocolate, light spicy, tobacco, bourbon, vanilla, high hoppy, grassy, cocoa, dry grainy, hay, citrus, licorice. Fast dissapearing finish - thick liquid. Strange but nice.

Best after 10/17/2010. 22oz bottle, 2009 Vintage. Deschutes’ 21th birthday. Porter brewed with chocolate beans and coffee added with 20% aged in bourbon barrels. Black wax. Dominican Republic cocoa beans and Ethiopian coffee.

Dark brown / black pour, light tan head. Aroma of earthy coffee beans, charred grains, cocoa, chilies, oak soaked in bourbon. Flavor is a lot of toasted malts. Nice roast. Distant coffee flavors. Nice presence of chocolate malts. Earthy flavor. Very nice cocoa, bourboned oak lingers on the palate. A very great Oregon Brew. Great!

[1705-20080912] 1pt6floz bottle. Dark roasted malt and smoked wood-barrel aroma. Black body with a medium-lasting creamy dark brown head. Bitter roast coffee flavour has a mild whiskey finish and mild vanilla hints throughout. Full body is boozy. Very nice, great quality, sweet and enjoyable.
