Commercial Description:
A black ale made to commemorate the coming of long nights and short days. This dark ale, with light chocolate undertones, was brewed with roasted black barleys and dark crystal malts to create a dark color while keeping the lightness of an ale. Nugget and Willamette hops were used, adding a balanced and full flavor. Enjoy this beer while waiting for the dark and damp winter to pass. IBU’s 29 Alcohol by Vol. 4.8%

Draught @ the Portland Brew Pub poured into Imperial Pint glass. Pours straight black with a finger of beige colored head that eventually forms a light ring around the glass. Aromas is chocolate malts, some smoke and a touch of hops. Flavor is sweet upfront with piney hops and sweet malt and ends with a lingering bitterness with some smoke. The body is light-medium with a nice carbonation. Pretty decent beer but its a bit sweet which makes 16oz. a little too much.

On tap at the PDX Deschutes pub. Very dark brown with a thin beige head. Sweet roasty chocolate and cocoa up front, mild diacetyl note. Thin body, mild hop bitter finish. Faint coffee note in the finish.

Tap @ their Portland Public House... Poured dark, almost opaque, ruby with light highlights and an off-white head. Malty aroma and grainy sugars on the nose. Really hearty, toasty malt characters in the flavors. Cocoa and nutty notes too. Also a little bit of hops in the finish and sweet candy flavors.

On draught at the brewery tap in Portland. Best of the night, three person tasting session. Dark maroon with scant white head. Aroma of dark roasted malt and caramel. Rich malt flavor with cafe au lait, slightly bitter chocolate finish. A winner.
