DocLock (4170), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 15, 2006 Thanks to Ken B. for this one, and I wholeheartedly share Ken’s enthuisiasm over this one. Pours hazy deep, deep brown, with a 1-finger tan head. Fantastic appearance on this one! The aroma is huge Wheaties, with some brown sugar. Very similar to the Celebrator aroma. Tastes like liquified Wheaties, with brown sugar notes, and some slight almond, hop, and caro syrup hints. Fairly thick palate that is balanced and complex. In my mind, this is a top tier bock beer. It went well with a hunk of aged cheddar and a piece of hard bread. mobrew (19), Oregon, USA Apr 16, 2005 It has been probably 3 years since I had this on tap at the Horse Brass Pub, but still remember it as an EXCELLENT beer, great body, malty and hoppy flavor. To bad they don’t bottle this one, I think it would sell very well. Gusler (2656), Tucson, Arizona, USA Dec 10, 2000 I like ’Bocks’, this is a good one. Robust and strong with a great malt start and a fair hop presence at the finish. dwyerpg (2094), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Jan 11, 2007 A little smokiness in the aroma. A nice lager taste, a little bit of caramel hints. Sweet, but certainly some good tasty stuff. kenb (945), Oregon, USA Jul 23, 2006 Updated: Sep 16, 2006Ok, this was my very first bock, and it made a believer out of me. I am new to the world of ’good’ beer, will never be able to drink typical US macro-swill again. Pours a dark clear reddish brown with a nice head. Very little lace. Floral somewhat yeasty aroma. This is a wonderful beer, and while I do not know if it is what a ’bock’ should be, it is the best beer I have ever had. Very complex, very malty but well balanced, there is a nice subtle hoppy finish, but smooth. Subtle chocolate, subtle caramel, mollasses, prune?..there is a lot underlying here, and it is all wonderful!************
Rerate 8/12/2006-ok 50 some craft brews later. I am trying this again. I still agree with my previous rating, the only thing to add is that this REALLY comes alive if you let it warm up to 55-60 degrees! It brings more of the fruity notes out and leaves a mild bit of berry like alcohol flavor in the finish. Nice.
