Smells like chocolate malt balls and toffee with some underlying fruit and a touch of distant smoke. Warm and toasty malt flavor with medium sweet caramal and cocoa notes, plus some raisin in the finish. Slightly chalky aspect in the taste and texture. Subdued hop qualities. Some light, roasty bitterness. A decent brown ale. Thanks for the bottle crilg.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 20, 2006 Bottle: Aroma of not the freshest bread you would keep in your breadbox. Also a good roasty aroma. Brown body with the red hue and tan head. Head settled to a film like cover over the top of body. Good roasted flavor with some mild sweetness. Caramel was also present to make this a medium to full body brew. Smooth on the palate an enjoyable brew. Aubrey (2774), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 12, 2006 As browns go, this was a beauty. Deep ruby-red, with a frothy, tan head and sticky, lasting lace. Fresh nose. Nice levels of roast and toast. Sweetness (brown sugar, dark caramel) and bitterness was balanced and complementing. Hints of dried nuts, if there was such a thing. Pretty good brown, IMO. Ernest, I actually enjoyed its "crude, raw and husky" qualities. They provided an edginess to an otherwise boring style. elnadeau (786), Laguna Niguel, California, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 11, 2006 Updated: Jun 26, 2007Combined rating (2x sampled, once on draft, another by bottle): Poured an amber brown color, nice off-white orangey almost looking head, good retention, decent lacing. The aroma was of light roasted darker malts. The flavor was comparable, light roasted malts, some bitterness to the malts (not seemingly from the hops), firm nut presence, and a touch of berries in the finish. Fairly balanced sweet/bitterness, and finishing with a bit of dryness. Moderate mouthfeel for the style. FoolishMortal (965), San Diego, California, USA

| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jun 8, 2006 Slight roasted malts with some caramel on the nose. More amber than brown in appearance. Very sweet flavor, some crystal malts, lots of caramel. Frothy and little in the way of hops. Decent quaffer, but not exceptional.
