Will drink again for sure. Glad it’s in texas. Would love to see Deschutes turn this into an imperial red. ROGUE (700), Newark, Delaware, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 5, 2009 12oz bottle. Poured a reddish amber color with a small tan head. Aroma of caramel malts, roasted barley and a light smokiness. Very creamy mouthfeel and smooth malty caramel taste backed up by a nice hop bite. Tasty and easy drinking. Very crisp and cleaned up well. I'm sure I could drink about eight of ten of them. I've now been drinking this stuff for like 3 months. Still love it. I go to the market and pick up a mixed deschutes 6 pack. Two Cinder COnes, 2 Obsidian Stouts and 2 Black Buttes. What a knock out combination for six dollars and fifty cents. The swetness and fruitiness never fail to surprise me. talon1117 (628), Bellvue, Colorado, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 2, 2006 To say the least it is a very interesting beer. Deep amber color and off-white, fluffy head. Nose strong with flowery-piney hops up front and maybe grapefruit, peach, and apricot notes following. Faint toasty malt far in the background. Soft, medium-bodied grapefruit taste is prominent. Nectar fruit and mild toastiness (and maybe toffee?) drift into the background. Finally, flowery, slightly piney hops come to balance the palate and finish into the end, with the grapefruit taste still lingering. Very interesting for an amber; mild complexity in a very drinkable beer. Although I am a little curious why is is offered in the winter, when I would much rather try in the spring? jetzler (622), oklahoma city, Oklahoma, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 9, 2007 Bottle, Nice lacing with a darkish copper color, and a nice beige/tan head. Nice amarillo hops, and carmel malts. A very nice amber ale, plenty of flavor, full well rounded citric and floral hops, balanced against medium sweet malts. Pretty tasty. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Apr 8, 2005 Dark reddish in color. Slightly cream-colored head. Very attractive beer. It had the slight smell of iced tea. The taste was very hoppy and malty as wells as was the finish. I was totally impressed with this stuff. I would like to try this on tap if it is available. spikester (602), Salem, Oregon, USA

Pours reddish brown from the bottle with an off-white good amount of head.
Lots of lacings.
Aroma is piney resinous and sweet.
Flavor is bitter hops with a very sweet maltiness. Nicely balanced not quite crisp but close. Medium dry finish.
Exceptional brew. If you could only have one micro--brew a day this would be a good choice.
Highly recommended.
