| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jan 24, 2005 Poured a dark reddish amber with huge pillowy head that lasts and lasts. An aroma of caramel, roasted barley, smoke and a trace mustiness. The malt taste is huge. Starting with caramel and toffee plus some darker coffee like flavors. The hops tie this beer together nicely. The balance is dead on. Citrus and Pine together with substantial bitterness that is lightly puckering but not overwhelming. This is the best red I’ve ever had. The boys at Deschutes really got their shit together on this one. Too bad it’s only a seasonal. alafito (334), tijuana, Mexico
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 19, 2007 Nice amber red sunset color, light flavors of toffee, raspberriess and honey... all with a medium bitter backbone. All around light, refreshing and well balanced. Finishes with some hoppy flavors as well. Very well done for and amber. gracefullypunk (327), Washington, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 3, 2009 Pours a light red with very little head. At first a bit sweet, with prominent roasted caramel flavors, the earthy hops give it a bitter finish. Aroma is bready and biscuity. Palate a bit thin. cstuartj (326), Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 7, 2004 Great appearance in the glass. Very fruity/hopy nose. I think this is the first ’red’ I’ve had and I’d be hard pressed to put a labble on it, not like a darker beer (porter, stout) not like Pale Ale or IPA... It’s an interesting middle ground. Deffinetly worth a try. brewshthereen (316), Oregon, USA

Has a floral, earthy grassy, aroma. Flavor is somewhat chewy. Nutty, Toffee, carmel, and sweet malt. Hops make their presence known. I will admit I am not a huge amber fan. But this is good. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 21, 2006 Sampled from bottle. Pours clear red-bronze with a thick head and remarkable lacing. Very good looking beer. Aroma is mostly cocoa with some hoppy notes. Toffee, spicy hops and citrus make up the flavor. Medium-bodied and zesty (carbonation and hops). Better than typical. Everything about this beer is quite similar to the fan-favorite Deschutes Pale Ale. But even more drinkable. Perhaps a bit sweeter. Great beer.
