Commercial Description:
A medium bodied amber ale, Cinder Cone Red has a rich malt flavor and red color derived from four kinds of caramel malt with a hint of dark roasted barley. Amarillo and Tettnang hops balance the toffee sweetness, creating a refreshing full hop flavor. Available January through June.

Strong, hoppy smell with a bitter tang. Another smooth entry - light bitterness with a peaty bite. It's a pleasant suprise and quite interesting- much different than most amber ales.

Bottle. Pours an amber color with a nice white head on top. Aroma is pretty malty with caramel, toffee, and roasted barley. Hints of hops are in the aroma as well. Flavor is hoppy at first with bites of citrus hitting the tongue. Caramel and toffee come in also giving the beer some sweetness. The beer finishes dry with caramel and toffee flavors. A good refreshing beer that makes it a very drinkable beer. The name of the beer does it right.

Compliments of Gromit...Poured a ruby red color with a thick head...This beer has achieved an excellent balance from the initial hoppines to the follow up malt presence...This is a great Amber

Amber color with small fizzy head. Smells like grapefruit and hops. Taste spicey and earthy flavor.

Deep Golden Brownish Reddish. Piney hop flavor. Even bitter finish. I love this beer.

Now I love ambers and I love Deschutes but this was a let-down. Nice hoppy aroma and flavor with a light head. Skunky aftertaste however.

Another great offering from Deschutes. Reminds me of the woods. At first I thought the bitterness was a bit overpowering, but it recedes quickly leaving a nice, smooth finish. I enjoyed this beer a lot more than I thought I would.

I had this on tap at the local brew festival--'03. The Cindercone was the talk of the show. Red amber with a decent head--small, fine bubbles that left quantities of lace behind. The taste is hard to describe--it's very different from almost anything I've had. Rich malt body with complex sweetness, but a massive hop presence that just makes your taste buds tingle. It's a very bold beer, and not for everyone, but that said. This was my favorite domestic beer of 2003--It's impressive
