Balanced nose of apricots, buttery yeast, melon seeds, and peppery hops. Creamy with a prickly tinge, but palate filling. Toffee-glazed toasted nuts immediately anchor the snappy leathery yeast and earthy hop blend. Intense backside of spicy, fir tip-accented bitterness. Rounded fruity underlay caresses the scratchiness of the mild roast and leathery yeast. Light huskiness at the core comes and goes. Finishes dryly chalky and spicily hop-laden with herbal Tettnang. Stellar session brew which eloquently intertwines vibrant yet forceful hop bitterness with a plentitude of malt, PullMeABeer (203), Phoenix, Arizona, USA

Great-looking hazy red color, aroma dominated by straw and grains with some vague citrus hops. Bitter start with carbonation that goes all over the tongue, some grapefruit at the end and more bitterness. Thin body with some metallic elements. DubC5000 (199), San Diego, California, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 22, 2009 The roasted barley really comes through on the nose, with cooked malt and a floral hoppiness shining through as well. Solid malt/hop balance, with appreciable sweetness. Delectably smooth, slight bitterness at the end. Deep red-amber color. One of the better ambers I’ve had. Complex, and very memorable. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 26, 2008 Pours a dark, clear red with little head and no lacing Aroma is dominated by piney hops with a bit of bread. Flavor is similar, but picks up a bit of sweet caramel malt. Palate starts fizzy, but the beer becomes smoother and creamier as it warms. Overall an okay Amber. Those that like earthy hopped beers will like it better than those that don’t. Canadianlush (169), Scottsdale, Arizona, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 25, 2008 Very IPA like. Good but I expeted something sweeter when I pull a red off the shelf. Bitter malty taste lead to a short bitter finish. You just can’t go wrong buy a Deschutes of any kind!
