Commercial Description:
A medium bodied amber ale, Cinder Cone Red has a rich malt flavor and red color derived from four kinds of caramel malt with a hint of dark roasted barley. Amarillo and Tettnang hops balance the toffee sweetness, creating a refreshing full hop flavor. Available January through June.

Deep Red color. A medium bodied red ale. Malty and fairly hoppy. Good flavor. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is bitter

Clear reddish amber color with a frothy ivory head. Malty aroma with some fruitiness, maybe melon. Flavors of toffee and some rosted malt with just enough hops to balance the sweetness without being noticable. Smooth creamy mouthfeel. This would make a great session beer.

Bottle. Pours cloudy amber to ruby with a patchy off-white head, mostly diminishing, and some spotty lacing. Aroma is fragrant floral pine and spruce hop, fruity and medium roasted caramel malt, sugary nose. Metal and heavily bitter hop flavor, moderately acidic, no sweetness, and a lasting hoppy metal flavor. Medium bodied, dry and watery-thin palate.

12 oz bottle. Clear, rich copper color with a hoppy aroma that oozes slowly from the bottle. Taste is caramel and hops with some rich molassas. Nice and zippy for a red. Medium bodied with a clean finish.

Bottle@Beers of the World Live (NEC), 2008. Amber beer with a hopped and roasted aroma. The flavour is very dry and hopped. Overall a nice beer.

Big bubbles in a very thin head. Hand drawn cask. Honey copper colour. Rich spruce aroma. Tasty amber. Light sweetness with a hint of vanilla. Some spruce in the flavour as well.

Bottle. Nice reddish amber color - just what you want to see in a 'red ale'- topped by a nice off-white head. Caramel malt aroma. I was surprised at the amount of hops in here. It's well balanced, has a good hop flavor and is a good amber ale (not my usual). Not bad at all.

In short: An could-be-generic amber ale that is more hoppy than average for the style. Decent session beer.
How: Bottle 12oz. Consumed fresh soon after receiving it from Blutt59. Thanks a lot Bob.
The look: Cloudy redish body topped by small-medium white head. Good looking brew with that contrast of color
In long: Light but pleasant nose of caramel and leafy hops. Taste of hard candies, leafy hops, a touch of caramel, dry grass. The type of flavour profile I often get from beers with the name that contains “red ale”. The finish is medium dry with the dry burnt grass going nose-to-nose with the caramel and hard-candies. There was also some light plastic/phenol notes and the beer lost a few points because of that. Lean body and too much carbonation (soda-pop level). I drank their excellent Red Chair a few days ago and I thought it was underrated and now I find this well-rated Cinder Cone overrated. I’m assuming my bottle was fresh since I got it in a trade from a local but it just did not taste “fresh”. I need to try this one again and make sure it as fresh as a foetus soup.
