Light amarillo aroma all the way...Refreshing mix of bready malts, citrus and a bitter finish. Balanced well, but still packs plenty of hops. Great beer to bust out at the top of a long hike. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 19, 2007 Pours classic amber w/ a full, semi creamy froth that recedes to a contiguous brewers lace. Aromas of snappy citrus rind and malty caramel. Very nice! Medium nectar w/ ample residual effers creates a velvety texture. Balanced malt to hops ratio w/ a defined caramely grapefruit character. The finish is bittered perfectly w/ grapefruit rind. kmweaver (2501), Sebastopol, California, USA

Pours a clear, bright orange-amber color; off-white head with patchy, fine-bubbled lacing. Solid amounts of red fruits, caramel, and juicy orange bitterness in the aroma; nicely balanced nose. Medium mouthfeel: chewy, resiny orange and earthy bitterness, toffee and caramel (light sweetness), and red fruits; nicely balanced, slightly dry and well-bittered amber ale; nicely drinkable. Medium finish: red fruits, orange peel, and touches of caramel; balanced at the far end. mjg74 (2000), La Mesa, California, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 31, 2004 Bottle. Nice reddish amber color - just what you want to see in a 'red ale'- topped by a nice off-white head. Caramel malt aroma. I was surprised at the amount of hops in here. It's well balanced, has a good hop flavor and is a good amber ale (not my usual). Not bad at all. Linc (736), Sydney, Australia
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 26, 2007 Ah Deschutes. They rarely brew a bad beer and this is no exception. Really pleasing malt, nicely balanced with some fresh hop character. Some astringency in the palate limits drinkability, but its still a nice drop, just not Deschutes best.
