Commercial Description:
A medium bodied amber ale, Cinder Cone Red has a rich malt flavor and red color derived from four kinds of caramel malt with a hint of dark roasted barley. Amarillo and Tettnang hops balance the toffee sweetness, creating a refreshing full hop flavor. Available January through June.

What an Ale!!!! Carmel malts and toffee flavors burst out the second this fantastic ale hits your mouth. Beautiful dark red color with quickly fading head. This is a ale that you can enjoy over and over. Must pick up some today!!!

sampled on nitro tap at baily’s taproom, as well as the bottled version. for the sake of spontainety, i will rate the nirto version... pours a red/amber color with a nice frothy white head that contrasts well. tastes of sweet malts up front and fades into a slight hoppy peppery taste. smooth as silk as it was nitro’ed. suprised by the nitro which was well welcomed.

On tap at Cafe Bink. Pours like murky date juice with a creamy off-white head that leaves gorgeous lacing. Smells and tastes of caramel, hops, and crisp red apples. Extremely balanced and refreshing.

On tap at Deschutes in Portland.
I always look forward to seeing this seasonal on tap. Very balanced. Great aroma and hop profile. A little unfocused on the mid-palate. Leaves you wanting a little more body. All in all and great red ale!

End of May, 2004, Deschutes is now available in Colorado: Mostly clear and deep copper with a nice head and sticky lace. Full palate with a great carbonation level. Rich malts; hint of sweet toffee with big toasty flavors. Burnt, woodsy characteristics give it some real depth. Healthy bitterness and muscular tettnang aromas round things out. Really good beer.

This is an absolutely superb brew. It has a beautiful head which it retains well. The aroma is sweet with a hint of toffee. It is very full flavored with a wonderful blend of carmel/toffeeness, and fruitiness.

Pours an amberish color with hints or orange in the background, very very clear, some white head but runs away very quickly. Smell is tea-like- light, lemony tea, or iced tea. Moderate fruityness with a sweet, malty backbone and hops spread about.Taste also reminds me of tea- kind of an iced tea/black tea hybrid with other stuff going on. That other stuff being fruity maltyness and a light amount of bitter hops in the finish. Some roasted/toasted flavors surface to give this beer a well-rounded flavor. Mouthfeel is smooth and bubbley, bordering on creamy. Slick near the end- very nice. I’d say this is pretty darned drinkable- it’s tasty and not too heavy, it won’t sneak up on you (assuming it sticks to style and is around 5%) and is pleasurable to drink- a good beer.

This i more akin to an apa than an amber. Amber bodied with fairly thick head of a nice cream-foam consistency> Aromatic hop profusion is a delightful surprise. The flavor was a more diffuse hoppiness with a twinge of malt. Superb balance and nice, sweet flavor. Again, I hesitate to label this an amber, but if it is, it is a top fiver.
