Amber bodied with fairly thick head of a nice cream-foam consistency> Aromatic hop profusion is a delightful surprise. The flavor was a more diffuse hoppiness with a twinge of malt. Superb balance and nice, sweet flavor. Again, I hesitate to label this an amber, but if it is, it is a top fiver. loweredsixth (942), Fresno, California, USA

The aroma was a gorgeous sweet (sugar, toffee, caramel) grapefruity, citrusy character. The flavor was much of the same, but not nearly as bitter as the aroma would let you expect. Nice crisp, yet creamy feel. I am really impressed with this beer. I think it is a real standout among amber ales. beerguy101 (3946), Newark, California, USA

Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is bitter leitrim65 (398), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 17, 2004 Dark amber color with big fluffy white head. Scents of sweet caramel and fruit. This is an easy drinking beer, light bodied but with lot's of caramel and malt flavors. A slight tingle of hops in the finish. I'll have another. Beaver (599), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 5, 2005 12 oz bottle. Pours a slightly hazy copper with a creamy off-white head that goes to a frothy cap that leaves a little lacing.
The aroma is sweet caramel malts balanced with a nice raw and green hoppiness along with some tea-like notes.
The flavor is nutty caramel malts initially leading to a surprisingly big (for an amber) and raw and citrusy bitterness. The finish is bitter but also crisp. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and has just the right amount of carbonation.
Overall a surprisingly good amber, the best I’ve had to date. This would make an excellent session beer.

Everything about this beer is quite similar to the fan-favorite Deschutes Pale Ale. But even more drinkable. Perhaps a bit sweeter. Great beer. illidurit (895), Santa Cruz, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 1, 2009 Pours a slightly hazed medium-copper color with a rich, creamy, light-tan head that leaves nice solid films of lacing. Aroma is smooth sweet citrus an pineapple hops balanced evenly with a solid caramel malt character. Flavor is identical to the aroma. Excellent balance and a dry, lightly bitter finish. Smooth and tasty. Pretty much a quintessential west coast amber. spikester (602), Salem, Oregon, USA

Pours reddish brown from the bottle with an off-white good amount of head.
Lots of lacings.
Aroma is piney resinous and sweet.
Flavor is bitter hops with a very sweet maltiness. Nicely balanced not quite crisp but close. Medium dry finish.
Exceptional brew. If you could only have one micro--brew a day this would be a good choice.
Highly recommended.
