Pours a clear dark amber with a medium frothy light tan head that leaves behind good sticky lacing along the glass. The aroma is a light floral hops with some roast and nuts. Thin mouthfeel with a bitter hops with a nice citrus finish. Easy to drink, a very good amber ale from Deschutes. slugstout (18), Zig Zag, Oregon, USA

A rich and flavorful amber without too much malty sweetness. Clean and crisp subtle hop finish.

smell of roasted nuts, caramel, malt, touch of spice, a little cocoa in the back.
taste first hits you with malts, some caramel, pine, grapefruit, roasted nuts, well balanced middle, ends on the bitter side, aftertaste leave the tongue tingling and mouth bitter.
overall more hoppy than your fathers amber, well done. bsierra (213), Vista, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 28, 2008 On draft at Hamilton’s Tavern. Pours aclear rust hue with an ivory dollop of whipped froth. Balanced nose of apricots, buttery yeast, melon seeds, and peppery hops. Creamy with a prickly tinge, but palate filling. Toffee-glazed toasted nuts immediately anchor the snappy leathery yeast and earthy hop blend. Intense backside of spicy, fir tip-accented bitterness. Rounded fruity underlay caresses the scratchiness of the mild roast and leathery yeast. Light huskiness at the core comes and goes. Finishes dryly chalky and spicily hop-laden with herbal Tettnang. Stellar session brew which eloquently intertwines vibrant yet forceful hop bitterness with a plentitude of malt, warrenc (21), Oregon, USA

light head and almost no lace( my glass?)
the roasted barley makes this a nice red, not too heavy on hops, just right.

Fresh grapefruity hops, hint of crystal. Balanced, tasty. One of the better, and more robust, examples of the style. JMerritt (1321), Macomb, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 25, 2004 This bottle took the long way to Illinois from Oregon, by way of Maui. I purchased this at the Wine Corner in Maui during my honeymoon, never got around to drinking it, so I brought it back to Illinois with me. Red-orange in color, slightly murky. Small, soft head is khaki colored and mostly diminishing. Caramel and grapefruity hops in the aroma. The crisp hoppiness and mellow caramel malts meld together for one delicious aroma. Rather high hoppiness nearly overshadows the toffee malt profile. Lingering bitter aftertaste. MrRomero (1934), Nolanville, Texas, USA

Flavor is also fruity, mildy hoppy and some citrus. A clean, fresh tatsting beer that goes down very well.
