Commercial Description:
First brewed in 2006, Deschutes Brewery’s Hop Henge Experimental IPA reappears this year with more extreme hop flavors than ever before. The new formulation is the epitome of the brewery’s experimental style and commitment to innovation, while gratifying their unquenchable thirst for beautifully balanced hoppy beers. The newest incarnation of Hop Henge uses several new hop processes and techniques to create a truly unique and unexpected beer. Several pounds of Centennial & Cascade hops are in each barrel with a heavy dry-hop presence to top it off. A blend of crystal, pale and caraston malts creates an overall biscuity characteristic that is dense and muscular, building the alcohol base to support the monstrous hop profile. 95 IBUs.

Bottle. Heavy malt aromas of roasted and caramel, moderate hope notes of pine and orange, light soap for the yeast, with toffee, date and alcohol in the background. Head is creamy with larger bubbles, white, with good lacing and is mostly diminishing. Flavor is lightly sweet and acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is medium, oily and has lively carbonation. A little backwards in the ratio of malt to hops in the nose, but a well crafted DIPA regardless.

Bomber. Amber to copper body topped with a small, coppery head with good retention and leaves plentiful lace. Aroma of honey, flowers, hop oil, pine. Medium body with thin carbonation, slightly sticky, wet finish. Honeyed malts, hop flowers, hop oil, pungent, hop flavors of pine, sap, citrus. Well-malted, but the oil gives a harsh hop profile that lacks complexity. Seriously lacks depth and personality.

Crystal clear dark amber pour. Thin light tan head. Lots of hops on the nose: piny and citrusy. Hints of Belgian yeast with banana and spice. Very bitter flavor. Fruity with lots of cereal malt flavor. Yesty with nots of banana. Lots of bitter hops on the finish.

Bottle. Pours an average translucent amber with a slightly lively body. Aroma is pine sap, pine sap, and a bit of pine sap. Flavor is a mouthpuckering blend of grapefruit, pine, orange, and a touch of sour mango. Nice, full mouthfeel that allows the flavors to settle softly on the tongue. Great IPA.

Pours a dark amber with thick white head, creamy that stays around for a while. Aroma of floral hops, slight citrus, malt, and grass. Flavor is similar, with the addition of dried fruit. Mouthfeel is slightly dry, which I prefer in DIPAs compared to the slick to oily feel. Bomber goes down easy, but gets a little spicy towards the end.

This is a batch #3 bottle. Appearance - This one pours a dark copper-y orangish red color. Abolsutely beautiful looking with an off-white creamy head about 2 and a half fingers large. The lacing down the glass is generous but not overdone. Smell - Smells like a really fruity tricerihops. Has a very grassy quality to it, this is heaven to me in a DIPA. Taste - Damn, this is delicious. Nice hop kick, lots of mango and grapefruit. This is a very fruity DIPA and I love it. Mouthfeel - Mouthfeel is great. Perfect lightness to it that compliments a hot humid day like today. Love the creaminess this beer has to offer. Drinkability - I couild drink this endlessly for months without growing tired of its beautiful taste. If only this was a year round affair, I woule be in heaven 24/7.

Amber color with nice off-white head. Nice hoppy, citrus, nose. Flavor is fresh grassy hops with hit of grapefruit, yet not over the top. Good presents of malt that help balance it out very well. Nice texture that finishes off with a good bit of hops.
