Commercial Description:
First brewed in 2006, Deschutes Brewery’s Hop Henge Experimental IPA reappears this year with more extreme hop flavors than ever before. The new formulation is the epitome of the brewery’s experimental style and commitment to innovation, while gratifying their unquenchable thirst for beautifully balanced hoppy beers. The newest incarnation of Hop Henge uses several new hop processes and techniques to create a truly unique and unexpected beer. Several pounds of Centennial & Cascade hops are in each barrel with a heavy dry-hop presence to top it off. A blend of crystal, pale and caraston malts creates an overall biscuity characteristic that is dense and muscular, building the alcohol base to support the monstrous hop profile. 95 IBUs.

Bottle. Pours a ruby amber body with a creamy off white head. Phenolic with a nice lemon, citrus and pine character. A moderate hint of alcohol and a hint of candy and malt. Chewy spicy pine y hope resins with a nice honey note to finish. The hop character is boarder line destructive as it aggressively lingers. A good brew but i’d prefer a sweeter citrus ipa.

Bottle. A dark brownish amber color with a big foamy tan head. Sweet floral hops, light pine, and a malty aroma. Mildly sweet with a rich malty texture and flavor (earthy) with a dry bitter finish.

22oz Bottle. Batch 2 from the Safeway in Walla Walla, WA. Rich gummy tangerine aroma. Floral and fruit. Very nice. Crisp. Pours a coppery amber, clearish, with a good finger of heavy soaped foam. Flavor comes as a slightly more alcohol approach, again, rich with citrus-like hops, fir-needles, and some bright resins. Malt is a bit chewy, but the alcohols are a bit brash. Bitterness gives good clean lemony balance. Very nice. Complex, but a bit denser and low on the hop flavors for my overall preference.

Bottle… mgumby10’s & hopscotch’s WtFFfFDotF Throwdown … Clear burnt orange ale with a mid-sized, creamy, off-white head. Fantastic, small, tight retention. Caramel, citric, earthy aroma – grapefruit, biscuit, black tea and pine. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and laid-back carbonation. Big caramel and biscuit malt backbone lends plenty of support to the nice, earthy, hop bitterness. Raspy, moderately bitter, dry finish.

Bottle as shown. Pours a clear amber with a small creamy off white head that leaves behind good sticky lacing along the glass. The aroma is very hoppy with cascade, pine and grapefruit. Medium mouthfeel with a sweet hop and alcohol in a very bitter finish. A very good double IPA from Deschutes.

Bomber. Good fresh floral aroma. Orange body with off white head and good thin sheet of lace left on glass. Sweet citrus flavors but the dry bitterness was stronger to take that citrus flavor from beer. Dry sweet sticky bitter palate, need some water to rjuvinate palate.

Bottled. Pours with a gigantic head. Aroma has spritzy, lemony hops, some cooked carrots. In the mouth the beer is full bodied and rich without ever tasting malty or sweet, instead the body is just a vessel to deliver a nice chewy green hop. Fairly enjoyable.
