Commercial Description:
First brewed in 2006, Deschutes Brewery’s Hop Henge Experimental IPA reappears this year with more extreme hop flavors than ever before. The new formulation is the epitome of the brewery’s experimental style and commitment to innovation, while gratifying their unquenchable thirst for beautifully balanced hoppy beers. The newest incarnation of Hop Henge uses several new hop processes and techniques to create a truly unique and unexpected beer. Several pounds of Centennial & Cascade hops are in each barrel with a heavy dry-hop presence to top it off. A blend of crystal, pale and caraston malts creates an overall biscuity characteristic that is dense and muscular, building the alcohol base to support the monstrous hop profile. 95 IBUs.

Wow. Fkn tasty stuff right here. Generous hop character, as to have been expected. Very "pine" flavored. Tastes strong and finishes the same way and leaves the palate dry, begging for another sip. Delicious.

Sampled on 3/24/2009. This Imperial IPA pours a deep dark orange gold color from a 22oz bottle. Medium sized white foamy head, with decent retention and good lacing. The aroma is floral and citrusy hops, caramel and fruity malts. A medium bodied Imperial IPA. The malts are fruity and sweet, lots of apricot and pineapple flavors. The hops are floral, citrusy and piney. Kind of juicy tasting. Lots of hop flavors and hop bitterness. Nice lively carbonation. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is bitter.

Pours amber with an off white head. Smells of sweet nectarines, grapefruit, melon, resiny, metallic, soapy. Tastes of layered citrus and has some bitterness on the finish.

depp orange pour with a sticky beige head. Aroma of pine, grapefruit, oranges, and a touch of alcohol. Flavor is intense! Hops, hops, and more hops! Wow, ok this should be in the Double IPA category, no way is this a run of the mill IPA. The hops are relentless. Sticky oily resinous hops with notes of pine, and citrus. Wow, VERY bitter finish. An intense beer. I’m not getting much malt, this seems pretty one sided to me, its just thrashing my taste buds. Hop head seek this beer out!! i love it!

On draft at the brewpub in Bend, Oregon. This came a bright clear orange with a fat white head and good lacing rings. Nose of citrus hops and some caramel malts. Smooth and rich mouthfeel. Flavor is strongly dominated by the citrus hops with some pine and floral hops as well. Nice bitter finish. Very well balanced and drinkable IPA.

22oz bottle from a recent trade...pours a medium caramel brown with a soapy white head...aroma of light citrusy hops while still being pretty green and fresh...flavors of clean citrus hops and a light malt backbone. Light carbonation and solid fluffy mouthfeel. Solid all around.

Clear amber color, thin soapy white head. Chalky, almost citric quality to the aroma, behind the traditional IPA aroma. Earthy and citric taste, kind of murky and muddled. Seems to lack a focus.

22oz bottle. Pours a crystal clear orange body with a thin, off-white head that leaves a good amount of lacing. Aroma of bright citrus and floral hops. Light amount of sweet caramels and a bit of apple. Flavor is quite piney up front. Surprised me, but not in a bad way. The big pine taste lasts throughout and well into the finish, but a good amount of balancing light caramels even this out. Very floral, sharp, and astringent. Palate is medium bodied and oily before an extremely dry finish with a spicy, sticky, strong hop taste that lasts for a very long time. Overall, a very interesting IPA. Lots of sharp hop taste, but surprisingly nice balance throughout. Powerful and "immense" is an understatement.
