Commercial Description:
First brewed in 2006, Deschutes Brewery’s Hop Henge Experimental IPA reappears this year with more extreme hop flavors than ever before. The new formulation is the epitome of the brewery’s experimental style and commitment to innovation, while gratifying their unquenchable thirst for beautifully balanced hoppy beers. The newest incarnation of Hop Henge uses several new hop processes and techniques to create a truly unique and unexpected beer. Several pounds of Centennial & Cascade hops are in each barrel with a heavy dry-hop presence to top it off. A blend of crystal, pale and caraston malts creates an overall biscuity characteristic that is dense and muscular, building the alcohol base to support the monstrous hop profile. 95 IBUs.

a little fruity. has a hops EXPLOSION that comes on fast and doesn’t let up. But aside from that, not much flavor or balance. Highly carbonated, brown/orange smells grapefruity and crisp. maybe tastes a little slimy. i love hops so i’ll rate it well, but i would’ve liked more body.

Intense hop complexity - monster resin and pine with a citrus component of fresh, distilled grapefruit. Very floral and aromatic. A bit of a soapy finish but rounded out with the strong caramel malt. Clean and impressive.

Ridiculously fresh, supple, gooey, dripping, glistening pineapple and pear flavored hop oils. Candied cherries and sugared, gummy pineapple slices tickle the front of the tongue, while a soft oiliness and a chewy richness of body overtakes the palate. Sharpness builds over the middle, finishing with a snappy but rounded bite on the back of the throat. Just an insane IPA. Everything I love in IPA - clean, oily, extremely fresh, fullness from proper protein breakdown during mashing. Last bottle I had was weird :/

Sampled @ the PDX pub. Slighly more floral and fruity than I remembered. A little bitter w/ aspirin hoppy notes takes away from this overall well done brew.

Pours a nice caramel color with a medium off white head. Aroma is piney hops, grapefruit, pineapple, coriander, citrus and malt. Flavor is piney hops, grapefruit, pineapple, coriander, citrus, oily resinous hoppy and bitter. Loads of caramel malt to balance out the bitternes. Good IPA, more like a DIPA......way better than the other (last years) hop henge. Actually worthy of the name.

Bottle... Poured an amber tone with a frothy white head that stayed throughout the brew. Foamy palate with a syrupy base. Sweet caramel malt grains and hop bitterness that were really well balanced. Other earthy, citrus fruit notes too. A really nice IPA.

Bottle picked up from BevMo in Mira Mesa. Shared with Katie. Deep amber color with nice creamy head development and fine white lacing. Fresh, hoppy aroma of ginger spice, grapefruit, light apricot, toffee and caramel crystal malt influence. Thick, malty flavor, which I like in my IPA’s. Malty backbone is nicely supplemented with a sappy, dry-hopped bitterness in the finish. Tastes very green throughout, with lots of grapefruit. Very enjoyable.

Bottle poured into a tulip. Pours a dark, clear amber with a small creamy beige head that clings to the sides as it recedes to a collar leaving good lacing. The aroma is outstanding with tons of sweet citrus fruit hoppiness - grapefruit, mangos and especially pineapples. There are some floral hops mixed in with enough malts to balance it out in the nose. Fantastic aroma. The taste doesn’t quite live up to the aroma for me, a much more bitter representation of the smell. The hops are dominated more by the floral than the citrus and have a fairly abrasive feel to them, especially building up in the finish. There is only a slight malt presence in the background, mostly bready. The mouthfeel is sticky with the hop juice with good carbonation and, as earlier stated, a slight abrasiveness throughout. The nose is great on this one and the rest of it is very good. Another very good IPA from the west coast.
