Commercial Description:
First brewed in 2006, Deschutes Brewery’s Hop Henge Experimental IPA reappears this year with more extreme hop flavors than ever before. The new formulation is the epitome of the brewery’s experimental style and commitment to innovation, while gratifying their unquenchable thirst for beautifully balanced hoppy beers. The newest incarnation of Hop Henge uses several new hop processes and techniques to create a truly unique and unexpected beer. Several pounds of Centennial & Cascade hops are in each barrel with a heavy dry-hop presence to top it off. A blend of crystal, pale and caraston malts creates an overall biscuity characteristic that is dense and muscular, building the alcohol base to support the monstrous hop profile. 95 IBUs.

Damn good IPA! The acid and floral notes of the hops are well balanced with the malt.

Rating #2500. Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry, Garthicus, Blankboy, and GregClow, courtesy of me via my awesome Denver trip in May ’09. As good a choice as any for 2500, as it is my favourite style, it was awesome, it was from my amazing trip to Denver to see my brother and family, and it was shared with most of my (formerly) local crew. Medium orange, small bubbly white head. Great hoppy aroma, interesting spicy aspect to it as well. Great unique hoppy taste - really neat balance with tons of hop and interesting malt bill. Almost floral. Great stuff.

Bottle. Lots of pine, floral and citrus hops. Caramel sweetness brings this one down a bit for my taste.

Bottle courtesy of Chris Holder at the 8th Richmond Gathering on 06/06/2009. Clear caramel amber body with a medium creamy off-white head. Big floral and citrus hop aroma with a caramel background. Sweet caramel flavor with some citrus and floral notes, slightly resiny. Medium full body with moderate carbonation.

Pour is a dark golden copper that is crystal clear. Has thick white head that fades but leaves perfect lacing. Aroma is wonderful...the hops fill the room with lovely pine, floral and earthy notes. Also has a sweet caramel malt note. Flavor drops off slightly...its bitter but a little brash. Palate is thin and a little metallic but has good carbonation. Solid but probably best fresh.

Medium amber, good head. Aroma is cooked citrus. Flavor matches - warm citrus, a bit of caramel, and an interesting anise accented finish. Different.

22 oz. bottle poured an orange amber in color with a thick one finger light tan head. aroma has dark caramel, bitter resin hops, sweet fruit, and light citrus. medium mouth feel leads to a sweet malted body, resiny citrus hops, wet grass, fruit skins, and pops of pollen honey. this is fairly big, incorporating sweetness, plenty of malt, and resiny hops put together cleanly.

22 ounce bottle. Pours a slightly hazy copper color with a a medium head. Fair head retention and good lacing. Nice aroma with notes of citrus and resin, strawberry and pear with a nice toffee and grainy malt backbone. Taste is sweet toffee malts and huge citrus notes. Very bitter hops. Peppery finish. Medium bodied. Very nice beer.
