Commercial Description:
First brewed in 2006, Deschutes Brewery’s Hop Henge Experimental IPA reappears this year with more extreme hop flavors than ever before. The new formulation is the epitome of the brewery’s experimental style and commitment to innovation, while gratifying their unquenchable thirst for beautifully balanced hoppy beers. The newest incarnation of Hop Henge uses several new hop processes and techniques to create a truly unique and unexpected beer. Several pounds of Centennial & Cascade hops are in each barrel with a heavy dry-hop presence to top it off. A blend of crystal, pale and caraston malts creates an overall biscuity characteristic that is dense and muscular, building the alcohol base to support the monstrous hop profile. 95 IBUs.

Courtesy of Chris Holder, VP of Capital Ale House, Richmond VA. A very nice golden red body with a good light ivory head. Great aroma, light honey with the Cascade hops coming through very nicely. Excellent taste, smooth hop bitterness. Some very nice malt accents. Overall a great IIPA.

Bottle thanks to ditmier!
Fiery transparent red-orange, decent white head. Nose is way too malty, loads of cookie and pine, some caramel and alcohol. More sticky caramel in the flavor, some bitterness and soap, but the malt is just too strong given the beer’s weight , leaving behind salty graham cracker and pine. More hops please!

Bottle. Poured an orange-amber color with a slightly creamy, off white head. Aroma was really great; fruity, citrus, caramel and flowers. Flavor was good, if not quite as great as the aroma. Some crystal malt to form a bit of a backbone, but the hops are what truly shine. Flowers, orange, citrus, fruit, resin and earth. Very nice stuff.

Bottle (22oz). Shared by tupalev with me, blankboy, garthicus and gregclow. slightly hazy deep amber with an average creamy/frothy beige head. Light, sweetly floral aroma (roses, to be specific), the hops seemed perfumey and mildly citrus/hibiscus (not the nose of a double IPA, but nice). Intense floral bitterness in the taste, citrus pith, pungent resin, moderate alcohol, and overripe tropical fruit as it opened up on warming. Light body, moderately acidic, with a medium-long floral/citrus bitter linger. My final impression was significantly more enthusiastic than the first sip - lovely stuff; different.

With great thanks to Tupalev for sharing. Appearance: Slight brown, almost orange body with a small white head. Aroma: Floral, malt, citrus fruits, tea, lemons and yeast. flavour: Bitter hops, malt, quite alcoholic, perfume, orange peer and a lovely long bitter finish. Nice.

A tall, broken off-white head sits over this clear, deep coppery colored brew. The aroma is a fresh fruit medley of strawberry, orange, grapefruit and lemon. Bitter hops in a great balance with lots of juicy malts. Well balanced and a real winner here!

Bottle, Batch #3, 2009. Pours with a sticky orange-amber body with a large foamy off-white head that leaves awesome lacing. Aroma is excellent with fruity hops including peach, tangerine, and others, raspberry and a noticeable sweetness, sugar and caramel. Taste is a very nice balance of toffee, berries, burnt sugar and fruity, floral hops. Creamy bubbles...Great!
